chidad Posted May 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2013 Just got back from the Miami-LA , Panama Canal cruise on the Sun. Great cruise. Upgraded to a forward facing pent house on deck 8 which allowed a unhindered view of the canal transit. Money well spent. Port calls a little crowded since we sailed with the Pearl until Cabo. The service was good and the food was better than we had on the Pearl in 2011. I believe the smaller size and staff to passenger ratio had some to do with it. The only wrinkle was the penthouse came with a butler. Not sure exactly what roll he played other than deliver food when called, something room service does anyway. Difficult to determine appropriate gratuity for a service already included. Overall it was a wonderful experience.
DMH15 Posted May 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2013 Did your butler bring you daily snacks? Did you request dvds? Menus? Our butler, Teresa on the Sun was fantastic. Brought in food for a cruise critic get together and more!
landerslp Posted May 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2013 We are planning this trip next spring. Do you have an suggestions for port excursions?
chidad Posted May 11, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted May 11, 2013 The only excursion we went on was the Colonial Cartagena. Saw a lot but very easy to get separated from your group. Narrow streets and lots of people. Punta Arenas, Chiapis and Huatulco were kinda off remote . We got off at all the ports and had a good time even though we didn't travel far. You will enjoy the cruise, the Sun staff was excellent.
chidad Posted May 11, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted May 11, 2013 My comments about the butler were not meant to be critical of him. The fault was no doubt mine for not inquiring about the services he would provide.
NW Pacific Posted May 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 12, 2013 What kind f coffee maker did you have in your Penthouse? We are in 8201, just wondering if they have put the "laVaza" machines in the suites yet? thanks for your time to reply.
chidad Posted May 12, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted May 12, 2013 N W Pacific, What a coincidence we were also in 8201. The coffee maker was the ordinary one found in most all hotel or motel rooms. I don't remember the brand name, but it wasn't the same as the coffee brand.
