Traveler 13 Posted May 13, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2013 I was recently on the Maasdam, 4/22/13, and I met Rob Loeub, events coordinator, at the M&G. I found out he was on the Statendam during the time frame listed above. The CC group and others on the ship had brought donations for the children on Fanning Island. Some others n the ship donated money We were unable to land at Fanning and Capt. Albert tried to make the donation on Tahiti(the French authorities wanted to tax it). The next plan was to deliver the goods on the Statendam's next visit in February 2013. Rob Loeub was able to check with friends still on the Statendam for the rest of the story. The ship was unable to land at Fanning Island again and the French still wanted to tax them. The resolve was that the money was donated to a school in Nicaragua, which I believe is Capt. Albert's favorite and the other donations were given to the port agent in San Diego.

Krazy Kruizers Posted May 14, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2013 Interesting story about people wanting to do something good and getting beaten down for their efforts. Not good to want to tax donations -- the French sure are discouraging people wanting to make donations.
