winste Posted May 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2013 I'm planning for our first Alaska cruise in May 2014. I'm considering HAL, Princess and NCL. Leaning towards NCL (Been on HAL 5 times and it's a little stuffy). Due to some career changes coming up, this will probably be our only opportunity to visit Alaska so I want to get this right. Looking at the Sun leaving May 19 2014. My two questions for now are as follows: 1. The ship is scheduled to get into Juneau at 2PM. I would like to do the Tracy Arm excursion. It lists it as an available excursion for Juneau but any help on if it will actually be offered with getting into Juneau so late? 2. Does NCL actually sail into Glacier Bay park? The map does not look like they go in as far as the maps on the Princess and HAL websites show their ships going. I realize this may just be a map issue. I want to get as close to the glaciers as possible. Any other considerations? Thank you.
daffodiliaz Posted May 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2013 If you're on a Glacier Bay cruise, you'll sail as far as Marjorie Glacier then see a couple more glaciers on the way out. The NCL Pearl was there for the first time this season this past week and as we were leaving Marjorie the HAL Statendam was heading towards the glacier. roger001 Posted May 20, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 20, 2013 In May, the sun sets pretty late in Juneau. So there should be plenty of daylight viewing time. On May 23, the sun sets at 9:33 pm.
