daddyo Posted May 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2013 We spent one night at the Hilton Molino Stuckey last September precruise. With advice from Travel Advisor, we had the Hilton arrange a water taxi transfer. We arrived from JFK @ 10:30AM and were at the hotel by Noon. It was very expensvie, but arriving in Venice via a water taxi on a sunny saturday morning after an 8 hour flight was something we really enjoyed. Plus it was hassle free. Also, we really enjoyed the complimentary shuttle from the Stuckey to St. Marks.
jmkennett Posted May 23, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 23, 2013 Agree with Daddyo. Splurge and take a water taxi. Only way to do it with any comfort and convenience. It's a little bit of a walk from the terminal to the water taxis. Once you get on it, you'll be glad you spent the extra money. We stayed at the Molino Stuckey last July and it's a very nice hotel. The water taxi will take you to the front door. The Vaporetto will take you to a stop several hundred yards away. Not fun with a lot of luggage. The Alilaguna blue line will take you from the airport to the Molino Stuckey, but it will take about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, and like the Vaporetto, is not fun with luggage. I hate to say it, but you are going to want to splurge again and take a water taxi when going from Molino Stuckey to the cruise pier. The only other way is the Alilaguna. It is a pain with luggage and you are going to be fighting for space with everyone else heading to the port. The Vaporetto does not go to the port. It goes to the Piazzale Roma, which will really be a headache, as you have to then take the people mover back to the port. When you arrive by water taxi, there is a HAL rep right at he taxi dock. They will check your bags there and you won't see them again until you are onboard. Very convenient. Bottom line is Venice is very expensive when it comes to transportation. The Molino Stuckey has a great service to and from St. Marks, but there is nothing complimentary when it comes to the airport or pier. Water taxis will cost you about 100 Euro each trip. From Marco Polo, it takes about 20 minutes. From Molino Stuckey to the ship, it takes about 5-10 minutes. The good news, is once you are in St. Marks, it is easily walkable to all the main sights, so you can save that way. Splurge on the water taxis!
