Nights in New Orleans-Dress Attire?

I am checking out the web sites for many restaurants in the French Quarter-all of them show people at night dressed to the nine's. Atlanta has become so laid back recently-what should I really expect. Every city has it's own style. I wasnt going to pack that many dresses, as I am trying to do this cruise packed in a back pack. Should I pack an extra dress for dinner in New Orleans?

Unless you are planning on a really upscale restaurant (Galatoire's, Antoine's, etc.) whatever you have in you backpack should be fine.

The only restaurant left with a dress code is Galatoire's, where men must wear a jacket in the evening.
