Helipad policy change?

Just watched Millennium's webcam and saw some benches set up on front of the helipad. Is Celebrity changing their helipad access policy and allow access to this area?

Hi Boten !

Not typically. The benches are probably there for the crew. I have seen them there before.

However, on some special occasions such as Panama Canal crossings, I believe they do let passengers out there. Not sure if they do for Alaska or not. I know they do not allow access for Caribbean sailings.

For the most part, passengers do not have access to that area.

The Mille is the only ship that has benches on the helipad. I have seen some passengers on both the Summit and Infinity helipads on the day they have been at Hubbard Glacier last year. I also saw them during Canal passage.

We were not able to go up there on our day at Hubbard or at least I never figured out how to get there.

Don't know Celebrity's rule on using the helipad but passengers are permitted to sit on the benches on cousin RCI's Voyager class ships...weather and wind permitting. Offers a different perspective entering/leaving ports. We enjoyed it.

If you look at Summit's web-cam right now you can see people on the heli-pad as they are going through Hubbard Glacier. There are no benchs they are just all standing against the railing.

The question of how to get there is a good one since I've never noticed any signs on the ship, "this way to heli-pad". Anyone know how you get out there?

Thanks.

Other than Hubbard, the people you have seen on the bow are likely only crew. We have seen large numbers onf passengers on the bow in Hubbard on cruises a few years ago but they may now restirct that as well. During our canal trip in March we were at the windows in the lounge for the entire canal crossing and only crew were allowed on the bow. Several passengers made their way up there and were asked to leave by security in a matter of minutes. A few visibly gave security a hard time and were quickly confronted by 3-4 security people and escorted off the bow.

We sailed on the 5/20 Summit; Alaska Northbound. The day we sailed Hubband Glacier we were allowed on the Heilipad. I can't remember exactly what deck, but it's about Deck 10 I believe. We were higher and weren't quite sure where to go. When we got to the right deck, there was a sign pointing out to where you gain access. It's port side; you go thru the doors to the outside deck; then you thru a doorway and up stairs to the helipad. It was such fun, even though it was very cold and raining as well!

Summit's Panama Canal in April allowed us on the helipad. There was an announcement

in the daily and on the TV as we arrived. Access was from Deck 4 - port side forward

then past the crew hot-tubs and up to the pad. It was full by 6AM but lots of room

when we got to Pedro Miguel lock and through Miraflores. Apparently, they are doing

the same thing on Alaska cruises when up close and personal with the glaciers. At

other times, it is off limits, most likely because of the crew relaxation area just aft

of the helipad.
