Guarantee Cabins?

How do you book a guarantee? Are they only offered on some sailings? I was curious to see the difference in price between a GTY and being able to choose a cabin, but I couldn't figure out how to find a GTY on the celebrity site.

Whether or not there are guarantees will depend on how well that particular date is selling. For the trips I've booked, they didn't seem to appear until maybe 6 months before sailing, some even closer. FYI (if it's applicable) they are not usually available if you want more than 2 in your stateroom so if you are searching on Celebrity's site for 3, the guarantee category will not appear.

We booked guarantee on the Summit the beginning of May for the June 23rd sailing for 3 people. When looking at availability go to the category of cabin desired, then scroll down to the last offering. If a guarantee is available it will list as GTY. We were happy with our cabin assignment.

A number of years ago we tried a Guarantee on two cruises to save a few dollars. Big mistake and never again. First, you often get whatever leftover cabin in your class that has been passed over for a reason. Once we got the very first outside chabin on the front/port side of the ship. The balcony had a solid metal rail and it was very rough and noisy. We heard the anchor chain lowered several mornings at 4:30AM. Once we got a cabin right across from the elevators and had noisy drunks talking loud at 2:00AM each night as they got off or on the elevators. These led to lost sleep. So from then on we carefully picked out our own cabins and paid the few extra dollars.

We recently booked 2 guarantee Aqua cabins 8 weeks from sail date. If we picked an A2 room it would have cost us $1,250 more for each person! Given the price difference we thought we'd be happy with any A2 room, so going with a guarantee was a safe bet for us. We received our cabin assignments (both were A2) within 2 days of full payment. The two cabins ended up being on opposite sides of the ship, so we called Celebrity and had the rooms moved. The rep said that we could move to any available open room within the A2 category. Fortunately, there were two open A2s right next to each other in a desireable location so it worked out great for us. :)
