Getting to Gdansk from the ship.

We are really late in trying to figure things out. We are doing Gdansk on our own. Has anyone figured out how to get there from the ship? The things we read about the train didn't sound so great. We were thinking about getting a cab for the day - maybe sharing one with 2 other people. We've done that in other cities and the driver kind of become our tour guide, etc.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to Cruise Critic

You might want to post this on the Ports of Call boards or do a search there for Gdansk. That way you will be speaking to ALL cruisers and not just limiting yourself to Oceania cruisers who have been to Gdansk.

We found taxis waiting at the port. The driver took us and another couple into town and we walked about for a couple of hours. Meeting back in the plaza at a prearranged time we returned to the ship. We paid in euros.

Thanks for this info. Since we are short on time, it sounds like a good plan. I am sure we'll meet someone who wants to do the same thing.

Hi,

Are you on the Marina cruise 25th June to 5th July? We are on that cruise and would like to share a taxi into Gdansk. Reply via the forum and we could make arrangements.

Thanks.

Hi Chris and Ann,

Yes, we are on the Marina sailing on the 25th of June. It would be great to share a taxi. I've read a few other things and some people have said that the driver becomes their guide, too, for the day. I saw, too, that the Oliwa Catherdral is a wonderful place to see, but it is outside of the Old Town. Would you want to do that as well?

Looking forward to meeting you?

It's really great that you guys have hooked up like this, but it would probably better for all concerned in you continued this cyber friendship in the (EXTREMELY ACTIVE) Roll Call for your specific cruise. You will find it here:

Enjoy the Marina & Gdansk!

This should have ben posted on Roll Call and I suggest you still do that for ideas. We have a private guide and he wants only 2 people I feel driver/guide may be available at Viator. Taxi also sounds good Happy hunting

Thanks, Roq.

We did find a couple to share a cab with and I don't know how to move this over to Roll Call.

Maybe we'll meet you on the ship.
