We were on the Crown in May 2013, embarked Southampton and took wine on board. We stopped in France, Spain and Guernsey, brought wine back on board and were not stopped. I think that you have just got to be sensible.

Boarding the Crown in 11 days so we are happy to hear this. We like to bring a little wine back from our ports.:)

Reports are that Princess is starting to enforce it, in Los Angeles, and now Alaska... I believe that enforcement will start in other embarkation ports soon. So, be prepared for it, and if they do not enforce it yet, it is a bonus.
