Resident Rates

How often do you see these? Don't think i have ever seen one for Maine.

I think they usually apply to folks who live in the state where the ship departs to encourage locals to cruise.

We get them for Missouri from time to time. We actually sailed from Galveston on a resident rate about 3 years ago. I haven't seen any show up recently though.

I'm in Illinois and never saw a resident rate...until yesterday! Since I'm Early Saver for my September cruise I filled out the form online and within 2 hours they adjusted my price by $40. This was the 2nd rate drop I got this week.

We got a CA resident only rate on our last cruise on Freedom. My sister-in-law who lives in TX, was mad because we got a discount and she didn't.

I'm from CT, and my roomie for the cruise is from WA. I checked it both ways, and we got the reduction from either state. We are sailing out of FL, so neither of us are local to the port. I think they are just scrambling for people and are offering discounts to those who know how to look for them. Don't really care, I'll take the $40 reduction!

Saw a Resident Rate for Kansas in 2010 for our sailing out of Tampa. Hadn't seen another one until today for our Sailing out of Ft Lauderdale.

Very expensive to fly anywhere out of Montana...sometimes finally now there are deals to Seattle and Las Vegas and sometimes a smaller to Tuscon airport...that is still a couple hundred or so deal. We occasionally get resident rates on Carnival I noticed..flying to NYC or Hawaii, or Europe or Charleston or Galveston can sometimes be about the same..it is crazy. Also at just a million pop for whole state they do not run into a too many want it deal, with my solo travel maybe it takes a bit off sometimes..sometimes specials are not combined..sometimes they are, TA has to help with that....might have helped my Easter cruise fare 2012 of 800 for single inside guarantee Spirit 5 night San Diego to Cabo, she, TA, worked to get it to that price...sarah

I've seen resident rates when pricing a cruise out of Cape Liberty, NJ - they had a discount for the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT).

Illinois has the rates a lot. I have booked at leat 3 using the rate

Texas never gets resident rates; not that I have even seen.

I've sailed once out to Florida with an Oregon resident rate.... Prob 5 years ago. Are they intended for people close to port or people like me who have to fly long distances to port?

There are currently over 100 RCI cruises with Texas resident discounts. It appears to be about the same number as Florida.

I've never seen them for Texas on any of my sailings until recently. My cruise out of San Juan had a resident's rate for Texas and I was all over it! I would still be booked at the rate, but Carnival eventually had the Friends and Family promo for past guests and I saved $50 or $80 with it.

 

But they do occur; just not as often as I'd like to see them for my sailings. :D

I think they do it for both reasons as they need to fill ships...I love Pdx by the way...hope to move back and lived there long enough to be half Montanan half Oregonian..fun to fly from NW corner to SW corner I thought...Sarah
