Disembarkation

I will be cruising to the Bahamas on the Gem next Saturday. I need to set up a car service to pick up my large family group on day of embarkation in NYC. The ship docks at 8am. How do I know what time we will be finished with luggage pick up and immigration?

You don't. However, you can make a estimate. If you plan to self disembark, allow an hour or so for exiting the ship and clearing customs. Anything can happen though.

If you plan to get off late, you will have to be off by 9:30 or so and allow an hour for that. Good luck.

It is not unusual for there to be issue, customs is backlogged, port issues, etc. You've go to be flexible.

The following factors will impact your time leaving:

Actual tie up to the pier

Shipwide clearance by port authorities, customs, etc.

Time for each color group to leave

Time for each member of your group to get their act together

Time to find your bags

Time to deal with customs and immigration

And even though it is listed above, the larger the group, the higher chance SOMEBODY will slow the entier group down.

btw, I just got off the Gem and they will make you cross over 12th avenue to wait for your pickup. you will be waiting for your ride at 48th and 12th. There is plenty of standing room and there is plenty of space for a car to come up to the curb and pick you up. some were being picked up on 48th others were being picked up on 12th. It is not an issue at all...unless it is raining.

Yes, there are 7 adults and 5 children. I figure on telling the van/bus to arrive 10:30. Hopefully we'll all be out by then.

That should work just fine. You may even be earlier than that. Make sure you have a phone number to contact if running early, or late.

And make sure your group has wheeled bags and can manage things.

A van or limo can't go up to level to pick u up. If u walk your luggage off yourselfs u can get iff ship between 8 and 8 30. No need to put on luggage tags or have them out the night before . Or u can wait to be the last ones off and that us by 10 o clock no more lines everyone is gone by then . We just came back from gem and we had a problem w our ride home so we hung out in room till 930 then on the 7th floor we hung out on couch till they ask us to leave that was at 10. By that time there is only a handful of people left. No lines .
