specialty restaurants

If you decide to go, in addition to the cover charge you should consider whether or not to provide an additional tip. Some do, some feel it's all part of the cover charge.

I realize I already paid for the free food in the dining room, but I enjoy the specialty places and it is a vacation.

No one has to use or go to any extra charge venue or service. :) The dining room food is OK, certainly adequate with a few really good things. But it's a treat to go to one of the specialty restaurants. If I have a lot of formal nights on a cruise, I like to go to the Crown Grill or Sterling Steakhouse on one of them. Some of the formal night menus in the dining room don't appeal to me so that's why it's a treat.
