Red Scorpion Posted June 29, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2013 Handel was the court composer to the Elector of Hannover. He was allowed to go on a tour but he never came back because he was offered the job of court composer in England. Why be the official court composer in little old Hannover when you could be court composer at the Court of St.James. All went well until Queen Anne died and the new King arrived. Who was it? Well the next in line to the throne was her German cousin George, the former the Elector of Hannover and his old boss that he had done a runner from. Handel came up with the idea of the Fireworks Music spectacular played on boats on the Thames with lots of impressive fireworks to placate the new King George I. It worked.
