Flying Dancer Posted July 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2013 We are cruising from Santiago Chile to Tahiti in January of next year. Am wondering what the sea conditions are like that time of year in the Southern Pacific. Any input would be appreciated. We are going to be on the Oceania Marina.:)
rogfam Posted July 1, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2013 I think that we are on the same cruise if you leave from Valpariaso on Dec. 28, 2013. If so, check our roll call. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1758331 Glenn

vaitape Posted July 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2013 We're thinking it will be bumpy. Going uphill into hurricane season.
Paulchili Posted July 2, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 2, 2013 We did this cruise last January. The seas were smooth and we had great weather in all ports. Couldn't tender in Pitcairn, even though it seemed OK, but the Pitcairn people came to us on the ship. However, it is the rainy season in FP - so rain is likely or possible. Hawaiidan Posted July 2, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2013 When you ask questions about weather between ports all over the world there is a good reference that seafarers use " Sailing Routes of the World" It covers about every trade route know for every month of the year giving sea state, winds, storms etc. You can also buy "pilot charts" for the region than give accurate historical and seasonal wind and sea information broken down in grids. If you are going to cruise a lot and are curious then it might be helpful to get they are available from marine/nautical book stores for navigators
gopat Posted July 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2013 We were also on the same cruise last January. The weather while we were at sea was lovely. Spent lots of sea days laying by the pool. We did have a huge downpour one day while we were on on off-roading excursion on Bora Bora but it really just added to the fun!

For Tahiti Dec/Jan/Feb expect heavy rain each afternoon /evening like the T storms in FL but no lightning Short but very strong
