Not Good for the Conquest

Recommended Posts

I don't know where you are looking but there is a green alert at the top of the CCL website that says 'Carnival Conquest 7/7/13 departure'.

Well they just put it up there. Thankfully. It wasnt there a little while ago.

Yes it is right at the top of their main web page. When you click it, it has all of the details.

I'm sure there will be a lot of people showing up at the pier not knowing what is going on. If I didn't call my parents they wouldn't have known.

Exactly. It's going to be a mess at the pier this morning I'm sure.

Was just about to post the same thing. On the upper-left of the Carnival home page is a greenish-yellow alert box re: the 7/7 Conquest sailing. Not that it couldn't be bigger or flashing or something, but it is there now.

It's really not much different than a hurricane - and this IS hurricane season.

Closing the Mississippi has a huge impact on America, and a cruise ship is not that significant in the scope of things.

Carnival has no control over the situation yet will no doubt be blamed by those lacking in knowledge.

I imagine Carnival will be taking care of those who don't get notice and show up at the port anyway, but no need for all of them to show up.

Having the information online wouldn't help some folks. We drive to the port and usually are there a day early. Although we have a laptop, we don't take it. Don't want to leave it in the car for a week. We use the texting option so we'd get the alerts on our phone while traveling.

As to the expense of a hotel, we get travel insurance, which would cover this.

Thats just silly to me. Like a person sailing (or supposed to be anyway) in a few hours knows to go searching for it. And is likely checking out of their hotel etc at this hour.

Geesh...seems simple enough to me put it on the front page

Don't know how long it has been there but there is a link at the very top of the home page called Carnival Conquest 7/7/2013 departure. Takes you right to the message.

Know it is a major inconvience? but they are transporting the guest from NO to Mobile. Sucks that it is now a 6 day instead of 7 though.

Been thru this in 2003 with Carnival and was not to bad. Was on the Paradise was suppose to go out of Miami and went out of Ft Lauderdale instead but came home to Miami. Some big Union Convention in town. We were bussed from Miami back to Ft Lauderdale.

What about the Elation. It comes up the river tonight and I know passengers on their way to NO to board in the morning, Have not seen anything yet. Hope they can clear the river

today. If they can it should come in on time.

Who is John H? I want to see his fb. I need updates and carnival isn't doing a good job of supplying any!

John H is the Senior Cruise Director and as far as I am concern Carnival needs to change is title to Executive Public Relations Director and give him a BIG PAY RAISE. He is doing a lot more than his title suggests. Without him we wouldn't know half of what is going on with Carnival ships these days.

THANKS MR. H!

They diverted us to mobile Alabama back in 2009 when that barge sunk in river they bussed US back to nola

We were on the RCCL Grandeur of the Seas from New Orleans when this happened in 2004. Accident killing 5 people happened on Saturday morning after the Grandeur was in port.

So, we boarded the ship on Saturday afternoon with RCCL telling us about accident and that we would leave as soon as authorities cleared the ship. We were allowed to use the ship as a hotel and come and go as we liked until the ship could sail. It was Mardi Gras so that part was great. Turns out the ship did not leave NOLA until Wednesday morning. RCCL told us on Tuesday what was going to happen; they could only sail around the Gulf after they departed on Wednesday. In the way of compensation, they refunded all of our money for that cruise and gave us 25% off a later cruise. We could stay for the rest of the week or go home. We went home since we had a business to run. RCCL did a good job of handling the situation.

CARNIVAL SHIP returning on Sunday (think it was the Conquiest) was diverted to Gulfport, MS. We had balcony facing the terminal so we spent our Sunday watching what went on with the Carnival passengers. Carnival passengers felt sorry for us since we could not get out of port but we felt more for them watching what was going on. Can you imagine bussing the returning passengers with luggage from Gulfport? Carnival commandeered every bus they could find. After getting the returning passengers back to NOLA, they bussed the departing passengers/luggage to Gulfport. At 1 AM on Monday, they were still getting passengers out. RCCL sent food/drinks down to the terminal about 1 AM. We will never forget that cruise that never happened for us.

Due to other circumstances (ship could not get down the Mississippi due to power lines and high water), Carnival had been doing the bussing thing on a regular basis earkier that year from Gulfport. We heard Carnival employees remark that it was like old times. Carnival brought in extra staff and got right to work. It was a massive understaking.

So, Carnival has always had its share of challenges. We still said with them.

We will be thinking of Carnival passengers this week end.

In response to Judy above, we were on our first cruise Holiday out of NOLA in 2004, with Conquest being diverted to Gulf Port, we were sent to Mobile and that was before the Alabama Cruise Terminal was built, a massive operation to say the least. Carnival had chartered Motor Coaches to return us to NOLA and then returned with the departing passengers on that Monday, Carnival could not have been better, we were notified on the ship Sunday afternoon as to what was going to happen. We had another incident in October 2005 out of Tampa when Hurricane Wilma was in the Gulf, we were scheduled to be on a 5 day cruise but it got changed to a 4 day due to the hurricane, we were booked in a hotel in Tampa and Carnival contacted the hotel to add another night at a cruise distressed rate, remember when you fill out all of you cruise docs and have to input all of the before and after info, this is where they can use it. I hope everyone has a great trip on the Conquest, remember 6 days on the ship is better that 6 days at work.:):)

We were told about an hr ago that we would be docking at 230 and disembarking soon afterwards. They also said we would have motor coaches waiting to escort us to Nola to get our cars. For people who missed flights today they are welcome to stay on the ship tonight free of charge and will have motor coaches for them tomorrow morning. The crew and staff has been great and planned several activities for us today like trivia, spa specials, movies, a 4th episode of the hasboro gameshow. All in all its been a great day! I do hate it for everyone missing a day of their cruise and for the people that were on the boat that sunk but carnival has done all the could to make us very happy and comfortable today!

Thats great to hear!

I was actually wondering about letting people stay on the ship tonight...or letting the others board if all of your cruise was disembaraked today. There will likely be a shortage of hotel rooms between all thats going on plus now 2 cruise ships worth of PAX.

I suppose Carnival will also have to have special arranagements for when they return to Nola for processing the pax who are without passports; as this is no longer considered a closed loop cruise.

I am sure that they will treat their arrival in Mobile just as if they were arriving in New Orleans and it will still be considered a closed loop cruise. That and their final destination is still New Orleans.

We are aboard the Conquest right now. We are in Mobile now heading toward the pier. The crew has done a wonderful job of keeping us informed, and have been very professional in keeping everyone calm, etc. We should be at the pier at approx. 2:30 and will begin to disembark and be directed to buses ASAP. This is most definitely not Carnival's fault. I am very sorry for those who have missed flights due to this situation, and I can only imagine what an inconvenience this has been for them. My husband and I drove to NOLA, so we will return aboard a bus to pick up our vehicle. Gotta roll with the flow (pun intended)!! :):)
