chiapet Posted July 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2013 FYI ... for anyone who loves good craft beer ... like DH & I do ... Years ago ... we did our own *FREE Halifax Walking BEER TOUR* within walking distance of the ship: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=417655 But unfortunately ... some of the breweries & brewpubs have moved or closed :( ... so here's a new & improved version: 1. GARRISON BREWING CO. (1149 Marginal Rd ... 902-453-5343) http://www.garrisonbrewing.com/ * located at the pier, $2 samples 2. HART & THISTLE (1869 Upper Water St ... 902-407-4278) http://www.hartandthistle.com/ * nice waterview location, good food & craft beer incl. some limited in-house brews, with food court nearby 3. PROPELLER BREWING CO. (2011 Gottingen St ... 902-422-7767) http://www.drinkpropeller.ca/ * nice beers, even root beer 4. FOGGY GOGGLE (1667 Argyle St ... 902-444-1414) http://thefoggygoggle.ca * no beer menu online, but lots of LOBSTER on food menu 5. MAXWELL'S PLUM (1600 Grafton St ... 902-423-5090) http://themaxwellsplum.com * 60 beers on tap! 6. ROGUE'S ROOST BREWPUB (5435 Spring Garden St ... 902-492-2337) http://www.roguesroost.ca/ * casual brewpub 7. ROCKBOTTOM BREWPUB (5686 Spring Garden St ... 902-423-2938) http://rockbottombrewpub.ca/ * upscale brewpub 8. HENRY HOUSE (1222 Barrington St ... 902-423-5660) http://www.henryhouse.ca/ * one of few places to still see hand pumps and get cask-conditioned ales Also ... here's a map with the most optimal route ... to hit all of them: https://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?msid=216355194734857514006.0004e12fbdaa2db14f7b2&msa=0&ll=44.644992,-63.571353&spn=0.016274,0.027595 I know the beers are not free ... but the walking tour itself is ... so you get to see some of the sights for free ... and then spend your money on the awesome pints of beer instead ;) P.S. We're planning to do this *updated* tour next month ... so please let me know if you have any revisions or comments ... to help us on our way. And I'll also report back with a review ... once we return :)

maryann ns Posted July 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2013 No I do not work in the travel industry and never have. I live in northern Nova Scotia but am from Halifax.
RickT Posted July 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2013 When we go home to visit friends and family we often stop at the Lower Deck (http://www.lowerdeck.ca/). It doesn't make it's own beer but the outdoor deck and view of the Bluenose (when it's in town) are wonderful. Otherwise, a wonderful route with some great destinations. Thanks for the confirmation of the route and for pointing out the Lower Deck. I'll make sure we check it out when we're in town next month ... as it's also in the *Harbourside Historic Properties* with the *Hart & Thistle*. Sidenote ... the *Hart & Thistle* is also the original location of the old *John Shippey's* :)

maryann ns Posted July 15, 2013 #11 Share Posted July 15, 2013 I can't help you with the beer tour - not my thing. You already have the restaurant my beer expert son likes "Rogues Roost". The Old Triangle often has live Celtic music. If you want general Halifax information look for me on TA and send me a private message with your email address and I'll send you my notes. Meanwhile check out these links: halifax.ca/rec/documents/HfxWaterfront.pdf http://destinationhalifax.com/visitors/things-to-do-in-halifax http://www.destinationhalifax.com/uploads/assetsfile/Hfx%20M&C%20Planner%202009-Halifax%20Map.pdf
