Is it possible to put "cash" on your account before arriving?

I don't know which port you are leaving out of but when I was at the port in New Orleans checking in and picking up my sign and sail card the lady at the desk took my cash to put on my sign and sail account. That is the first time this has ever happened. Usually I have to stand in line at the purser's desk to pay cash. I'm hoping this is the way it is everywhere.

This is what I find questionable about the cruise cash

Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account. This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges. Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

Why not just wait till you get to the port and upon check in , place however much you want on the sign n sail account . We start off with around 600 or 700 and if we need to add more ( which is almost never ) we go down to guest services and do so .

On the last evening at sea we close the account late that night and get cash back from what we did not use .

Is there a minimum you have to pay in cash for each person? We want to use cash instead of credit card.

No , when you fill out your info on the online check in , you are able to say whether or not each guest has charging privileges or not , I always make it a point to add the tips first and then make that a 0 starting point , so for 7 days we put 150 for tips and then figure 500 to start with , so we give them 650 , 700 at the terminal .

You can check your balance anytime on some ships thru the TV , or if your ship does not have it there , then you can go to Guest services , and if needed add more money .

When you purchase cruise cash, where can I check to make sure it is applied? Do I need to view my cruise documents?

When I purchased it for my sons cruise in May it never showed up anywhere.

Best to print out your confirmation when you purchase because they never send you a confirmation either.

I had to call them a couple days later and have them send me one. There was a paper in his cabin when he boarded that said he had the money on his account.

We purchased the cruise cash as I am able to guess pretty close what our sail and sign will be. It is a use it or lose it so be careful not to purchase to much. I like having as much paid for before we go so I purchase some each month. I did not get email confirmation so called and they sent me confirmation which I took with me however it had all been applied correctly.

Someone on another thread said that if you don't use all of your Cruise Cash, you can just go to the casino and have the unused amount available for gambling on your sign and sail card. Play a penny slot once and then cash out at the desk for the full amount of your unused Cruise Cash.
