Arriving Anchorage 1 day early for cruisetour ???s

Our June 2014 Princess cruisetour starts with an overnight stay on a Tuesday at the Captain Cook Hotel. We will be flying in on Monday as I am a firm believer in the day early philosophy.

Does the Captain Cook Hotel or Princess offer any deals for the night before our 'official' stay starts? The hotel is not cheap (~$300) if you just look at prices and I imagine the taxes and fees add a hefty chunk.

Will a Princess transfer be of any use to us on that day or is it only good for the next day?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know anything about prices, but just want to say that we stayed there when we went on the Exotic Explorer cruise tour and absolutely loved the oysters rockefeller in the Whale's Tail. The Captain Cookis within walking distance of lots of restaurants and stores. Have fun!

what time do you land in Anc ?

If it's evening and you have no plans to sightsee, why not just stay at an airport hotel or in midtown ... one with a free shuttle and b'fast.

After breakfast the next morning, take a cab to the Capt Cook, leave your luggage with the desk staff, and go exploring for the day.

Princess transfers are only for the princess booked portions. When we sailed last year out of Vancouver we stayed 2 nights at the Pan Pacific as part of a Princess pre cruise package. There, they met us at the airport on day 1, took us to the hotel and on day 3 they "transferred" us to the pier-being that the hotel in on the pier they picked up our luggage from the room, checked us in at the hotel lobby and they escorted us to the lounge.

Presumably, the transfer package would take you from the airport to the Captain Cook on the Tuesday meaning that they would do nothing for that first day and you would be paying for an airport transfer that you might not use.

Princess might sell you an extra night but, as you note, the CC is not cheap.

Other than that, I am not sure what you would do about the transfer.

As for other hotels, you have plenty of options and none are really cheap that time of year....
