MarilynTX Posted July 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2013 Is terminal 2 more efficient than terminal 1? I've only embarked/debarked from terminal 1 and if you arrive or depart at certain times the wait can be lengthy. I've learned from experience not to arrive between noon and 2:30 and not to use self debarkation. This December we're sailing RCCL and they use terminal 2. I'm just curious. Is it better? ssb Posted July 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) There is a 12+ million renovation occurring before December . We along with others have recommended ingress egress traffic patterns changes for both terminals. We shall see? sugarlandsue1 Posted December 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2013 We went thru Terminal 2 Decmber 8 2013 and I thought it was awful-we stood outside in the cold for nearly two hours before we could even get into the terminal building. Coming back there were very few porters so debarkation took nearly 3 hours- it seemed very poorly managed to me. In the future I certainly intend to look at going out of the Bayport terminal. Terminal 2 was the pits.
ssb Posted December 17, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) The biggest issue in Galveston is Customs and Immigration! Federal cutbacks are affecting the number of officers assigned on Sundays for both RCL Navigator and Carnival Magic arriving and departing on same day. Terminal #2 in Galveston has not been rennovated yet though! Hopefully there will be new and more C&A officer stations when it is! RCL is doing a decent job of releasing passengers off ship based on C & I getting them out the doors. But the backup in terminal is C&I not being able to process passengers fast enough. The passengers disembaked off ship at intervals are backed up in baggage area with bags in hand in one line, and baggage handlers with other passengers in a another line. All then are stacked up in baggage claim trying to get thru same doors and into area of customs and immigration!!!!!!! The hold up is C&I not having enough officers in place at 7:OO in the morning with RCl. They are being shared between Carnival and RCL and now Houston and C&I officers are not being able to process passengers fast enough. In November off our cruise, there were only 3 officers in place in terminal #2 early to mid morning. More officers up to 10 showed up mid to late morning. And they still could not handle them efficiently. Were the computers down or were the officers just inefficient! WHY ??????????????????? The major problem is Federal Customs and Immigration, not RCL or Port of Galveston. RCL , Carnival and the Port of Galveston need to be meeting constantly with Federal Customs and Immigration over these matters. If not already?
