yorkshire1975 Posted August 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2013 Visiting Barcelona, Valencia, Monta Carlo and Ajaccio. Looking for idea to do one our own, not booking an excursion?
rubydoobydoo Posted August 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2013 I would suggest the open top bus tour around Barcelona and a walk down Las Ramblas In Monaco we walked up to the palace, the views were great and there was some nice little shops Enjoy your trip Janis
jeanlyon Posted August 6, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2013 Valencia is lovely. We took the shuttle bus in, visited the Ceramics Museum which had lots of interesting things, not just ceramics and has the most marvellous marble doorway. Monte Carlo also very easy on your own. tom_uk Posted August 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2013 Personally I wouldn't use the open-top bus in Barcelona. I'm not a fan of these things anyway but the Barca one seems especially cumbersome. There are several different routes with cross-over points where you can change, but millions of other people seem to be doing the same so there's chaos at the relevant stops. Also we found that the buses drive along wide-open boulevards which, on an open-top bus on a hot day, get very very hot indeed - there's very little shade. We would recommend using the metro. It's fast, clean comfortable, and air-conditioned! It's easy to use - the ticket machines have an english-language option. There are stops at pretty much all the major sights. So choose the day's target (e.g. La Sagrada Familia), use the metro to get there early, do the sight before the crowds get too big, and then relax for the rest of the day. On our last visit we did La Sagrada Familia with a pre-booked (on-line) ticket using the metro; then when we'd finished we got the metro back into town, walked around a bit, and finished off by visiting the old port (now completely revisited). We thoroughly enjoyed the bus and didn't find it at all like you describe, but then again we did it end of September, maybe it was not busy then, it was hot but I wore a sun hat and I was fine. yorkshire1975 Posted August 6, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted August 6, 2013 We have done the bus in Barcelona and its not my Favourite place. We were thinking of doing the cable car. What are the prices like on Excursions? Thinking of the dolphin spotting at the rock. Anyone know how much the helicopter ride in Monte carlo is? I fancy seeing the tortoises? Anyone eaten at the white room, someone said if you go there on the first night it is cheaper?
marylizcat Posted August 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 8, 2013 In Ajaccio, I recommend the little train around the town, up to the Napoleon monument for a photo stop and out along the coast road the see the offshore islands. Starts in the main square, easy walk from ship. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
