CanadaDeb Posted August 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2013 We are sailing on the Jewel and I was wondering if RCCL still does the Baked Alaska in the MDR?
Clarea Posted August 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2013 We are sailing on the Jewel and I was wondering if RCCL still does the Baked Alaska in the MDR? Yes, it's served as part of the Basil menu.
Rare LittleMissMagic Posted August 6, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2013 On my last Royal cruise, they didn't set it on fire in front of us like they used to. I was told it's a fire hazard. Makes sense.
dplusd Posted August 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2013 In MTD there is no "flaming baked Alaska" parade, but we have ordered on the desert menu on one of the nights. Not as good as it used to be!

Candleonwater Posted August 6, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 6, 2013 On our last 2 cruises I was very disappointed in it. The meringue looked like they had barely passed a torch over it, and it was still raw.
gambee Posted August 6, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 6, 2013 I ordered it on the Allure, I was actually very disappointed with it. It was just extremely sweet, and very little taste to it.
cruisenfever Posted August 6, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 6, 2013 The "new" Baked Alaska now comes in it's own individual serving dish which has the meringue on top that has been singed. However, my experience has been that the ice cream is very hard when served and very difficult to eat. Portion size is much too large also, IMHO. My4Grandsons Posted August 6, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 6, 2013 I remember around 1963 of 64, on the "Queen of Bermuda", I ordered a Baked Alaska for dessert. My mother had half and I had the other half. Yes we finished it.
