Malta 7AM-5PM Port Itinerary on November 3

Recommended Posts

We were thinking of the following as first timers

- Blue Grotto

- Hypogeum (buying tickets today)

- Walk around Valletta

Our questions from the experienced visitors were

- is a private cab best for this or should I research tours?

- approximate cost for 2 people?

- Is it a good itinerary in terms of time utlization and experiencing Malta?

- Food is prime for us - where are the better lunch options?

Thank you so much!!!

We liked Mdina in Malta which is worth a visit. Whilst there we had lunch at the Fontanella Tea Garden.

When you are seeing Valletta, include St. John's Cathedral in our time.

We used http://www.peppintransport.com/ for transport to get to Mdina.

We're hoping to visit Mdina on our cruise next month. Is the tearoom easy to find?

It is reasonably easy. There are signs and it is right in the wall at the far side of the city from where you enter.

I would take a look on Google maps for an idea

I live in Malta and would definitely go for a walk around Valletta, which is so interesting and has a great deal to see. Stop off and pick up some leaflets from the Tourist Office at the beginning of Merchant Street in the Auberge d'Italie and go read them in one of the pavement cafes near St Johns Cathedral or Pjazza Regina. There are little electric taxis that will take you around for 2 - 5 euros per head per trip if you don't want to do a lot of walking - find them outside the front of St John's Cathedral, where the cafes are.

Food - has a strong Italian bias. Merchant street has a good selection, stroll along and have a look, or treat yourself to lunch at the Phoenicia hotel. Or get a little electric taxi to take you to Cockneys, a good fish place down by the Sliema Ferry stop (warning - its a steep walk down to the harbour where it is situated). If you feel like it you can take the ferry accross to Sliema and then back again (a 5 minute trip each way) and see Valletta from the water.

When you disembark from your ship in the morning, you can walk along towards the Victoria City Gate and take the large public lift directly up into the city - no need to take a taxi. Please don't take one of the horse carriages unless you are happy that the horse looks well and in good condition. These are not licensed and some - though not all - of the poor creatures are not well cared for by their owners. Enjoy your trip.
