Best place to meet friend at Canada Place

Hi...I have a friend meeting my parents when they complete their Alaskan cruise from Anchorage/Whittier to Vancouver. The Diamond Princess is showing as docking at Canada Place.

My friend will be visiting Vancouver on business and agreed to help my parents with their luggage at the port to get them on the bus used for the Princess transfer to the Vancouver airport.

Is there an obvious place/landmark they could meet after exiting customs and meet up with my friend? I cannot find a map of the Canada Place terminal or the Port terminal.

Thanks!

Your parents will not need any help with their luggage. Their luggage tags will specify they are on a Princess transfer and the bags will go directly onto the bus. Each bus has a separate number tag. In fact, the friend would not have any access to them. They will be escorted directly to the bus from the ship. Seamless. Just did this on 7/31, Coral Princess. Tell them to keep their carry-on bags small, as they will have to keep them with on the bus, as there will not be room below for them. Our bus was only half full, so there were plenty of seats for carry-on bags. Small ones would fit in overhead compartment. EM

Oh...and then what happens at the Vancouver airport? Will my parents take custody of their luggage once off of the bus? I'm trying to get the most specific info to my parents so they have a good idea of how things are supposed to go.

Many airlines offer luggage valet services for $20-25 per person. The cruise line takes your checked luggage directly to the airport and you are given boarding passes. I don't think non-passengers are allowed into the baggage area in port. If your parents are taking a ship transfer and cannot use luggage valet - they can get a porter to take their luggage to the bus.

You will get luggage tags, two each, for the luggage. You tear off one end with the number on it so they know you are in the correct group. The call your number, and everyone with that number will be on the same bus to the airport. At the airport you collect the baggage that has been underneath the bus, and head for check in. My transfer was to Seattle from Canada Place, but most of the airports I have flown from recently have a bag drop for people who have done online check in at home or on the ship. That avoids the lines at the checkin counter. EM

I have wondered for some time, how well does the transfer from Canada Place to Seattle Airport work, and how long does it take?

Traffic getting through Vancouver is slow, as there are no freeways in the city. It took about 1.5 hours to get to the border. there was a VERY long line for cars at the border, but the bus line was pretty short. they came on the bus and collected our passports, took them inside for screening, brought them back out and checked pictures as they handed them back. It took about 20 minutes. We lost about 45 minutes with construction at one bridge that narrowed things down to one lane. We left Vancouver about 10am and were at the airport at 2:30p. There was a rest stop to potty and stretch legs after the border. There was a bathroom on the bus. EM

Make sure you check the flight prices from YVR. We've always flown into YVR from LAX and the cost was not much more than to Seattle, usually around $20-30 per person. A lot less than paying for transfers and a time saver of around 3/4 hours.

Unless, of course, there is a reason you want to go to Seattle :)
