Sandals in St Petersburg?

Someone posted that it was not a good idea to wear sandals in St Petersburg as many of the walks were gravel and cinders. Anyone have any experience with this? My sandals are the most comfortable walking shoe I have, but I guess they might not be too good if that is true.

We were there during the 2003 European heat wave, and we wore sandals because it was very hot. No problems.

wear what you are comfortable in. My wife wore her Birkenstocks in some places. I wore my boat shoes everywhere. :D

A friend and I wore our Dansko sandals just about everywhere! No worries!
