05mak05 Posted August 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Today (Sunday, Aug. 18th), a reporter on Good Morning America said that the smoke from the fires covering the Northwest had drifted as far as Alaska and that this would be the situation for two more weeks. I'm hoping that someone from Alaska or Vancouver monitors this board and can give us some updated info. Thanks!

Kamloops50 Posted August 18, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Thanks . Currently the wind in BC is from the NW blowing towards the fires in Idaho and the other parts of the western states . Once our hot ridge rebuilds we probably will get the smoke . We are less then 250 miles (as the birds fly) from the fires.
mapleleaves Posted August 18, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2013 google for the web cams at any destination you'll be visiting and you can "see" current conditions. Right now the Juneau and Ketchikan web cams show rain and fog.... no smoke. I live 20 miles east of Seattle and it's sunny with a few clouds ... no smoke from NW fires. bearbait Posted August 19, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2013 No smoke in Anchorage all summer. Looks like we are seeing the start of the rainy season.
notes4theheart Posted August 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 20, 2013 We were just in Denali on the 18th and the shuttle driver and a ranger said that the day before (aug 17th) Mt McKinnley had no clouds around it but was obscured by smoke. There's also (apparently) a fire burning near chena hot springs in Fairbanks that was started by the military
suzski Posted August 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 20, 2013 I was in the Denali/Healy area from August 12-14 and you could smell the smoke from fires burning in the interior based on the direction the wind was blowing. http://www.newsminer.com/news/local_news/warm-dry-weather-stirs-up-interior-alaska-wildfires/article_57934372-00ca-11e3-a844-0019bb30f31a.html
AlaskaAtLast Posted August 21, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 21, 2013 I just flew out of Anchorage last night after spending the previous 2 days near Girdwood and no smoke. Plenty of rain, but no smoke.
