Regarding the free drinks in the casino...are people allowed to go in, get a drink, and then bring it back out? Do they monitor that?

 

It's not like a land-based casino where the drinks are always free. We had the drink cards because we were booked through the Total Rewards voucher from the AC casinos we visit, and part of the package is the free drinks card for both passengers. Otherwise, people get the drink cards when they earn 1500 points from playing. If you do have the drink card, you can leave the casino with a drink. There were a few times when we had not yet finished a drink and were ready to leave, or once when we went to kill time waiting to be buzzed for dinner, when we left with them. I don't think anyone pays very close attention to that.

Thanks. Yes, we have a couple drink cards coming to us via the AC cruise offer. :) We just didn't want to have to always stay in the casino with the drink. I enjoy gambling, but want to budget my money a little.

Woohoo! Those drink cards were probably the best perk of the AC offer. DB actually got another cruise offer right after we got home lol. We happened to be going to AC anyway, so we picked it up even though we can't use it because it's only good for 6 months. We picked it up because they were doing a $500 drawing from everyone who picked it up...he didn't win :eek: haha. So, we're hoping for another one to use next summer. Enjoy your cruise, and good luck in the casino!

Do you know if the buffet has cheese? Thinking of bringing a plate back to the room to have with crackers.

 

I don't go anywhere where plentiful cheese is not available. :p

They do always have a few different kinds of cheese, a variety of breads, and sliced fruit. Plenty of good snacking!

I was going to buy the cheese plate for the cabin, but one sister is a cheese hater and the other is a junk food lover so I would likely be the only one eating it. Sounds like my snacking needs will be satisfied via the buffet. :)

I really enjoyed reading your review. I'm leaving on the dawn in less than 2 weeks and was sorry I didn't buy the udp. I have 3 dinners booked in specialty, but you make the mdr dinners seem pretty good.

I also have the free cruise certificate through a local casino. I thought the casino was allowed to stay open after 9 pm while in port and am very disappointed to read that it wasn't open. Sounds like I may be going to bed earlier than I planned!

Hi! I am glad you enjoyed the review- thanks! I sailed on the Dawn last year (2013). The MDR menus have changed now, but I was very pleased with the food and selections in the MDRs on the Gem this summer (the menus are the same on both ships). From what I understand, ships can now open their casinos at night while in port in Bermuda. It just makes Bermuda an even more appealing destination to return to now! :) Have a great cruise!

Sorry, I didn't even notice the 2013. I just assumed it was last month! It could have definitely saved me money, not gambling every night! I'm still glad it's open. Thanks again for the review. I'm booked on the Gem in May, so also will look forward to that review.

absolutely loved reading your review, & have been thoroughly entertained while counting the hours we have left until we fly to Boston Thursday & board the Dawn on Friday! I sooooo wish you were coming with us....LOL....what fun we'd have!
