cruisegirl36 Posted August 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2013 We have a group of friends going to Roatan for the first time. We love just sitting a resort and using the pool and looking out to the ocean. We would be okay with just a beach day trip, especially since we have little kiddos. What would be the best option for us? I have found alot about West Beach but Im not sure what or how we get there and what resorts are part of that beach that we could get a day pass for. Rare crewsweeper Posted August 28, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2013 What ship are you on? Might make a huge difference in where you go. Some resorts do sell day passes but others discourage it, or limit what you have access to. Bananarama has a pretty good package with transportation, especially if you dock in Mahogany Bay. While Mahogany Bay doesn't have a pool, it can be an affordable stop. Not the best beach by far but easy to get to from the ship. Check out the threads here on Club Natale and Little French Key and Maya Key(cruiseline excursion only for this one) for alternative sites to West Bay. Club Natale and LFK are easier to get to from Mahogany Bay. The ferry dock to Maya Key is a 5 minute walk from the Coxen Hole pier.
2Okies Posted August 30, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2013 Carnival offers the Maya Key excursion. I haven't been (we will be in Roatan in January & I've been researching it), but it sounds like it has lots to do, besides beach - even with a one year old. They have a mini zoo (animals in cages), shopping, beach, shallow water, and snorkeling for those that want to do that. Its a little island just off the coast a small distance (if you look on a google map, its close to Coxen Hole, just off the shore. They also provide a lunch & one beverage. If you want to see a good review & pictures, look up the cruise critic member, "mitsugirly". She has a review of Maya Key in her signature. Clicking on it will take you to the review, and then she has noted the number in the thread where her review starts. She has a small daughter (I believe about 3), so it may be of some interest to you. Being a Carnival excursion, you wouldn't have any worries about transportation to & from, or making it back to the ship.
twostepmomma Posted August 30, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2013 You are probably docking at Mahogany Bay. There is a nice beach right there and shops. Why spend money going somewhere else.
Rare mitsugirly Posted August 30, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2013 You can check out some of my reviews in my signature. There are tons of pictures. Our daughter has been here from age 3 until now (age 5) and loved every place we have been. Maya Key and Little French Key are our favorites. :)

Do we just have a taxi driver take us to maya key and then find a spot on the beach? It's neither. It's an island and you have to book it by using your cruise ship. Only way to get there is by boat. :)
