RSLeesburg Posted September 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2013 This may be a little premature, but it looks like the school my son will be attending next fall closes for two weeks over Thanksgiving (the week of and the week after), so I thought I would get jump on planning a vacation on one of those weeks - in looking at cruises, it looks like most ships are in Caribbean or Med. Are there any other locations I should consider?
cherylandtk Posted September 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2013 If you are willing to use the whole two weeks, I would also look at a Hawaii RT. There are also a couple of 7 Day west coast Mexican Riviera trips. East coast departures would be closer for you though.
Harry and Lucille Posted September 6, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2013 15 day roundtrip from LA. Going for our second time in early December. Not as active or intense as many cruises because we enjoy the days at sea. Can be as busy or relaxed as we want. Have done the carib. many times. Great 14 day southern route from Fort Lauderdale. Just a couple of thoughts.
RSLeesburg Posted September 6, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted September 6, 2013 Thanks. I would love to do a longer trip, but not sure if my wife can get that much time off... But depending on the dates, it might work. I never thought to look at LA as a departure port, so missed that :) I was looking at an 8 or 9 day on Independence (out of Ft Lauderdale I think). That was high on my list, but this it was an Eastern, not Southern. I will have to look to see when Southern dates are. IIRC, the southern has many more ports I would like to see. Also, he has three weeks off at Xmas (where were these schools when I was growing up), so I may also look at some holiday cruises too :).
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 6, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 6, 2013 Panama Canal Transit is another option. Keith
Friend100 Posted September 7, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2013 Do 7-nights southern out of San Juan and spend a few days pre- or post for land.
Harry and Lucille Posted September 7, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 7, 2013 A little more in depth thought. Select the cruise lines that you are interested in. Go to their web sites and plug in the info. Area, dates, etc. and see what they have. You can also check the route and ports. May help simplify things. Happy sailing.
dorisis Posted September 7, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 7, 2013 There are 10 and 11 day partial Canal transits with some caribbean stops. That might be of intrest to your son.

They would certainly interest me - I have wanted to see the Panama Canal ever since I saw Charlie Chan in Panama :)
RSLeesburg Posted September 7, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted September 7, 2013 Do 7-nights southern out of San Juan and spend a few days pre- or post for land. I noticed that in Nov 2014, RCI will have both Jewel and Adventure sailing southern route from San Juan. Are there any other lines that sail out of San Juan that I should also look at? I have read great things about Jewel, but will need to read up on Adventure (or post to RCI forum where the experts can chime in). Just was not sure if anyone knew who else sails this route (either from San Juan or not).
