TNIris Posted September 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Hi all! We found out for an extra $200 on our reservation, we can put two of the four of us in a guarantee oceanview room (category I) (and when I say us, I mean not me, cause i'm staying in the balcony room! :D) Anyway, the room is on the 2nd floor, aft, under the dining room (probably the least desirable room on the ship LOL...other choice was forward under the theater, but the aft room will be closer to our balcony room elevator wise). ANYWAY, was just wondering what this room will be like. I'm assuming loud and shaky, cause you will be near the engines? I'm thinking maybe the view might be kind of cool, because you'll be so low that you'll be at water level? Might even see some sea life? Next question, since it is a guarantee, and they have already assigned the room, any chance of an upgrade? I notice on a dummy reservation on this sailing, there seem to be a bunch of G category rooms available on the 3rd floor.
GordorRCL Posted September 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2013 We just were on FOS last week(missing it bad!). The last 3 years we have done OV rooms on deck 2. We love it. One floor down for getting off at port(no waiting for elevators), only 2 floors up to cross the ship via Casino for dinner(we were forward). We had no issues with noise other then a little noise when we would dock, but that's mostly coming into Port Can since that's the only early arrival. Plus I don't think there are many(if any) inside cabins depending on where your room is so not as much traffic.

Last January we spend 2 weeks in an oceanview cabin on deck 2 close to the theatre, it was one of the most quiet cabins we've had. We had more noise in our grand suite under the solarium last August :(

If you want to change categories you must pay the difference in price between the guarantee and the new room.
Piper934 Posted September 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2013 We had 2638(im pretty sure that was number) at the end of July. Location to elevators and walk up from getting on/off ship was great. Didnt hear a sound from anything. Also quick access to mdr without waiting on elevators. renee1222 Posted September 11, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Just to let you know, you will not be so close to the water line that you would see sea life. There are at least 2 crew decks below deck 2 that are still above the waterline. It might be exciting in rough waters, as waves might come closer to the window, but as a general rule, you will be well above the water line. Disneymomx2 Posted September 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 12, 2013 We were on the 2nd floor FOS last year. It was very quiet - we loved it, and actually booked again for this year. Easy to get to MDR and off the ship. Also not far to pop up the stairs to the promenade.
cb at sea Posted September 12, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 12, 2013 The engines are many decks down. Below you will be crew quarters. The engines are WAAY below. You can't hear them. It will be no "shakier" than any other cabin.
