Tastings Menu ?

Hi all, Please excuse a dumb question, but what precisely is a "Tastings Menu"? One of the Menus for a specialty restaurant on the Allure mentions this.

It's small portions of several dishes, giving you the chance to taste more options than usual in a single, larger portion. There are no dumb questions :)

It also, generally, means that it is a fixed menu. In other words, you don't get to choose between dishes for the various courses.

 

It tends to be a very fun option if you tend to be an adventurous eater, but can be a bit disappointing if you have more limited tastes in what you enjoy.
