On the ships with self-sevice laundries, what are the cost for the washers and dryers? To they take dollar bills or quarters?

They all have self serve laundry. A quick search here will probably give you the costs now. They take quarters.

All Princess ships have self-serve laundries. Most have one on every passenger cabin deck. Cost is $2/load for either washer or dryer. Quarters used on all ships except for the Royal which uses tokens. They can be obtained either using the change machine in each laundry room or at the Passenger Services Desk. I knew many of the ships had self-service and I did look on the Princess web site, but all it said was they had them....no mention of cost. I did a search on this site, but the cost was several years old and was $1.50.

BTW - If you do any ironing be sure to inspect the iron's base plate. I ruined a shirt because some nincompoop left some black stuff.

A very easy place to get quarters is in the casino where the line may only be 0-1 person long the day or evening before you plan to do laundry.;)

Because of this I always bring enough Tide pods & OxiClean pods plus a roll of quarters. I realize I could bother to go down to the Purser's desk to get change, but why make that trip. Considering the weight of an entire large piece of luggage, a roll of quarters doesn't add that much weight to make a difference.

I fried my wife's silk blouse on Formal night as they iron had a mind of its own.....I'm still reminded of it now!!

We have booked our Cabin right outside the laundry, we did this on our last cruise, it was soooo convenient and not noisy at all.

No...not 24 hours.

 

Usually at 7am or thereabouts.

If you are staying at a hotel pre cruise they can probably get you a roll of quarters. Beats standing in line at the pursers desk. I also buy my laundry detergent before I board the ship. No lines,just go directly to the laundromat.

I am an early riser so for me the best time is right when the self service laundry opens up. I start my wash, go to the IC for coffee and stuff, and come back to put it in the dryer!

The last three Princess ships had coin operated washer/dryers that took 8 quarters ($2) per load. They also had change machines that took $5 and $1 dollar bills and gave out quarters. On the Golden last week, the coin dispenser gave me a casino token (quarter size) that the machine also accepted.

 

The laundry rooms always opened by at least 8:00 AM till 10:00 PM. I washed every 3 or 4 days on this 14 day cruise and the laundry room was always open around 7:30 to 7:40 AM every morning on Aloha deck.

That laundry detergent for $1.25/box is only enough for one load. I put a few Purex "pods" in a heavy duty ziplock baggie and tuck them into a shoe in a checked bag, and have never had a problem with getting them onboard intact. Way cheaper then the price for what is offered onboard, and I get to choose one that I like rather than settling for whatever Princess puts in the machine!!

Yes, 25 cent casino tokens DO work in the coin slots in the washers and dryers. I have often gotten them mixed in with quarters when getting coins for the self service laundry.

If you can find them the Purex 3 in 1 sheets work real good. They are hard to find anymore but try Amazon.

Just returned from 14 days on the crown and washed twice. The washers fill up slowly but do a good job. Both washers and dryers take 40 minutes each to complete a cycle. Enough time to either go get coffee or back to the stateroom and there is a television in the laundry room if you just want to stay and watch tv.

I've always used regular soap. The soap dispensers in the Laundry rooms also used regular soap.
