RotterdamGal Posted September 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2013 We recently redeemed HAL Visa Credit Card points to purchase shore excursions. When our credit card bill arrived, it charged us, up front, for these excursions. Question: Has anyone had experience with this? How is this handled on board? Do we get on-board credit in the amount that we already will have paid on our credit card statement? I've tried, in vain, to find out how this is handled. We would appreciate any info you may be able to provide. Thanks so much!
kakalina Posted September 16, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2013 When we did this the bonus points showed up as credits on our on board account. When we arrived we had a large credit bonus. We had originally asked for casino credit but it was explained to us it all goes to a bill credit. I also liked that I get bonus points for the full amount charged and still get a credit so its like double points.
oofroggie Posted September 16, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2013 I turned in points towards the price of my cruise and it was credited to my credit card as we were after final payment.

Rusty Scupper Posted September 16, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2013 When I called the credit card company about the credit for a cruise, they told me the reward amont would be posted as a credit to my credit card statement. They didn't ueven need proof of a booking. It seems to simply be cash back for points. To make sure I'm clear, you're saying that any point redemptions for shipboard rewards will show up simply as cash credited to the shipboard account? So, if tell Visa I want spend points for a Pinnacle dinner, it means I'd get a cash credit for that amount and it wouldn't matter what I really used it for. I just want to make sure I don't book two dinners that I pay for and then get on board and find out I have vouchers for two more dinners that can't be applied toward the others. kakalina Posted September 17, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 17, 2013 Rusty Scupper: That is how it worked for us. There was a credit for $700 on our shipboard account. That doesn't always mean that is how it will work for someone else.
