To do an excursion to a beach or take a taxi?

We just walk off the ship and go to the OFFICIAL taxi stand and tell them where we want to go (Valley Church Beach). It is about $14 pp each way, maybe a little less if there are more than 2 couples sharing the van. They will quote you a higher price, but that is IF it is for one couple. They normally will pair people up in groups.

We would also recommend Valley Church Beach. All the taxi drivers will come back for the return to the ship from there. There is a person at the location that corordinates all of the taxis. She knows them all by name. Its a beautiful beach with everything you will want. The more people in the taxi the cheaper. We paid $10 pp each way.It beats any ship excursion.

My family of 7 want to head to Valley Church for the day when we dock in February .. How much will a taxi cost (return) if there are 7 of us? Is the taxi cheaper the more people you have? We will also need a few chairs and umbrellas .. Cost for this is? $10 for 2 chairs and 1 umbrella? There are so many conflicting prices on here, I am not sure which to go by ... LOL .. HELP!! :)

Unfortunately it's been 4 years since our last visit to Valley Church Beach but after 9 Caribbean cruises it is still my favourite.

The price for the taxi/van should be the same whether you have 2 people or 7. That's why we always try to find others to share.

I couldn't give you a current price for the chairs and umbrella but you probably don't need a chair for kids who will be running around or can just use a towel on the sand.

Whether it's $10 or $20 it's worth it.

I've never bothered with an organized excursion to a beach at any Caribbean port. Just pick a beach and take a cab there.

We loved Valley Church Beach and plan on going there again this year. But I think a few more people have found it since eetonaee took those photos in the post above. Either that or we were there on a particularly busy day. There were several vendors renting chairs and a small beach bar/restaurant there.

We just hopped on a bus (Nov 2013) , $1.50 each to Jolly Harbor Beach. Beautiful beach!! There are a few spots to rent chair, umbrellas, snorkel equipment and to get some food. But, if you want some space , and are willing to walk a hundred yards or so you can find some shade and have it to yourself.

Just check out the thread "Our day at (Free) Jolly Harbor beach" on this same board and it will tell you how to catch the bus. There was a lady at the bus stop selling snacks, happily pointed us to the correct bus. The bus will drop you off at the entrance to the marina...just a short walk to the beach from there. There was a wonderful lady in the guard shack there that pointed us in the right direction. No charge to get on the beach. When finished, there will be cabs right at the beach or just walk back up to where you were dropped off and flag down another bus headed back (we just happened to walk up as a bus was passing ...great timing!)....or you could walk back to the main road and probably get a bus quicker

Day at the beach...$6.00 for transportation. Have fun!

We were just there in May. We took a taxi with 4 other people. [$32 for 1-3 or $8 pp] . . . It was easy to get a taxi back. We found another couple going back and shared the ride.

Chairs $5 and umbrellas $10. But we sat under a tree.
