marvin79 Posted October 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2013 Hey all! We are very close to becoming Platinum members and have never really cruised on a suite. I see that one of the benefits is "Concierge Service" and would like to know exactly what it means and what you can do with it. Thanks in advance. Ilovesailing Posted October 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2013 Concierge Service will do reservations for dinner but you can pick up the phone and do it yourself, there is a button on phone for dinner resy's. They will also book excursions but you can do it yourself by filling in the forum and dropping it in drop off box at excursion desk. Personally we don't use the service as its just too easy to do these things on your own and save on tipping. They will also do reserved seats at the theater but the seats are not the greatest (blocked view)and you can do better on your own.

DMH15 Posted October 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2013 So you call and are told the restaurant is booked. You call the concierge. Many times they get you in. Most, I'd say. Spa booked up? The concierge will help. Wanna wait in line for the chocolate buffet or to disembark in the first group? The concierge will escort you ahead of the lines. Decide to go to the show at the last minute? The concierge has a seat for you. On your own you would be in the back behind a pole. Need money exchanged? Your passport picked up, (when all or held), need your excursion tickets? Need your parka for Antarctica? The concierge will gladly do these things gor you. Need to know times of a church service in port? They will get you the information. And do on. Yeah , one can do all or most things for themself. But if you are like me and take care of my own and others' needs and wants ALL the time, it sure is nice to relax and be pampered on vacation!!! Cubechick Posted October 8, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2013 Despite concierge service being listed as a platinum perk, that information was not in our platinum packet on our last two cruises. I suspect this is being/has been phased out. It put too much of a burden on the concierge.

No. You'll get priority check-in (in the form of dedicated queue) but that's about it. IIRC there are specific (yellow?) luggage tags in the package for disembarkation but they are just a color like others (albeit available amongst the first colours after "real" VIPs), but you need to queue like all others, no jumping the line. CruisinMaterial Posted October 21, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 21, 2013 Despite concierge service being listed as a platinum perk, that information was not in our platinum packet on our last two cruises. I suspect this is being/has been phased out. It put too much of a burden on the concierge. With so many getting Platinum status I wouldn't be surprised if it is going to be phased out. A new tier has be setup by NCL where this perk comes back but only for the most loyal of cruisers to their brand. I'm not going to start a debate about what level it should be at but something that is much higher in the world of perks from NCL is a long-time coming and should be coming sooner rather than later. I agree though the concierges were getting overwhelmed with the demand on the ship. The concierge would also not get a tip from some of them making those of us who did tip for using their services get crappy service and just start doing things on our own like booking the restaurant reservations. rvsullivan Posted October 21, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 21, 2013 I think it depends on the concierge, the ship and the number and workload of the suite guests. On all of our cruises the concierge has been very helpful for the platinum member. Sometimes I think it depends on your attitude also. No priority embarkation because those go straight to Cagney's or whatever is appropriate for that ship. They do get priority disembark if wanted and also tender priority right along with the suites. Early entry to the chocolate buffet if you want and if it's not busy maybe seating at the shows. Some are correct in that you can also make your own reservations for the shows and dinner. But I can tell you they can get you in when it says they are full and get you good seats in the MDR. Your choice if you use them or not. But do tip if you do. DevonianCruiser Posted October 21, 2013 #12 Share Posted October 21, 2013 I think concierge services are good if you use them. I agree that platinum seems to easy to get to. I'm on gold and only done 5 or 6 cruises and will be the top after our next one, which seems easy to achieve maybe compared to RCCL for example. Maybe they should bring out another far higher level, but make it something worth having?
