American Airlines BOS to SJU

We are flying American Airlines from Boston to San Juan to catch our cruise in February.

According to our reservations, we get breakfast on the AM flight there and lunch on the noon flight home. Does anyone know what types of food are served? The airline personnel are friendly but do not have an answer for me. I am hoping that someone who has flown recently might remember. (I'm on WW now, so all I think about is food!:rolleyes: )

This should prove interesting. I am assuming you are flying Coach. First will be omlette or cereal for breakfast and pizza or chicken strips/salmon for lunch.

 

MOST coach meal service has been replaced by the buy-onboard boxes.

The web page says four hours will get a meal. BOS-SJU is lists as 3:55 so technically nothing (other than buy-onboard). Since your itinerary lists meals .. then you must be getting something. This tends to change every once and a while as competition changes!

 

Look at the web page.. also .. they say SJU has the special Buy-at-gate food program. Probably for flights shorter than 4 hours.

 

In any case, coach food (even First Class food) is not all that great. Bring something from home or buy at the airport and 'dine' onboard.

 

Hard to predict. Just plan head .. and if you get something .. kewl. If not you have some of your own! Just eat when you get on the ship!

I went to SJ in May, and going down I was lucky enough to be in 1st class. We had a croissant and some fruit. On the way home, I think we had a package of pretzels. That was our "meal".

You might save money if you fly Spirit from PVD. They have a flight that stops in FLL and then goes to SJU.

Call AA reservations, request a special meal...ie, Kosher, low sodium, veggie, etc.

 

An old airline trick: Always order the Kosher meal. It is better prepared, higher quality than anything else served on the flight.

 

BUT: It is an oxymoron to say "Airline Food" in the same sentence. Best best, nice breakfast before you leave home, nice lunch before you elave San Juan. Pass on the inflight meal cart

I never touch airline food on my way to a cruise. Just knowing that the Windjammer is waiting for my arrival is plenty good enough to hold me over!

Yes, unfortunately we are coach.

The airline specialist told me on the phone that we are indeed getting meals but could not tell me what.

Ahhh, someday I hope to fly first class. :)

We have a very, very early flight out of Boston and need to leave the house at - gulp - 4:30 am. That's a bit too early to eat for us. Maybe we'll just get muffins and smoosh them, I mean drag them on our flight for later.

Our flights are already booked. We decided it was worth the money to fly non-stop from Boston. We could have flown from MHT, but some of the flights were over eight hours, with layovers. We leave BOS at 7:05 and are in San Juan by noon.

It's funny you mention that...we always used to order kosher meals, back when we used to get meals. (Being Jewish, it was a bonus having them avaliable.) The problem was that, on first morning flights, the meals were still frozen. :D Imagine trying to bite into a frozen bagel, onto which frozen cream cheese was "spread". Don't even ask about the lox!!!

Still, I think that's what I'll do.

If we wait, we are going to be starving by the time we get to Windjammer...we fly in the day before our cruise. Still, I might look darn good in my bathing suit if we wait...

The one stop leaves at 8:05 and gets you there at 2:50 if you were interested. :)

We flew BOS-SJU in March and did get meals on both flights. We were on the same flight you are from BOS-SJU and there was a choice of cereal and muffin and fruit or omelette, muffin and fruit. On the return, our flight was in the afternoon so our dinner was a choice of chicken and potatoes or ravioli and a roll and a cookie for dessert, I believe. Certainly not gourmet fare, but enough to be comfortable! :)

Whereabouts in RI?

I grew up in Providence, on the East Side; my husband grew up in North Smithfield. I went to URI, but have not been back to visit in -- years. His folks now live in Warwick (where the airport REALLY is) and we have friends who also live in Warwick and Cumberland. Ah, such a small world!

BTW, 7:05 to 11:58 is still better than 8:05 to 2:50. :p

(But curious minds want to know...how much is the PVD-SJU flight?)

i have done the same flights on AA and the meals are nothing to brag about but are enough to hold you over. It's about a four hour flight and there is an inflight movie versus those tapes of old tv shows. Bring your own headphones so you don't have to pay. Remember its AA so don't expect much. I heard Delta's Song Airlines is going to be offering direct flights to sju, so I will most likly opt for them over AA in the future with their onboard entertainment system which will make those four hours go by quicker. But after that long flight you will get some exercise because it is about a four mile walk to baggage claim from the plane in SJU.
