tracico Posted July 8, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2005 Ok, here's my question: We didn't get the insurance for our trip on the Miracle leaving July 24th from Tampa. If a storm hits and the cruise would be cancelled would we get a refund or would we be screwed? I am worried due to all the storms popping up. Nitemare Posted July 8, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2005 If the cruise is cancelled, you'll get a refund. If you can't get to the port, though, cuz your flights are cancelled or some other reason and the ship DOES sail (and it will sail, although your itinerary might be changed, or it might leave late), you won't get a refund. kitty9 Posted July 8, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2005 There's another reason to make sure you purchase insurance. Even if your flights were canceled because of closed airports, and you didn't make the cruise because of the hurricane, the insurance would give you a full refund. Cruise lines rarely, if ever, cancel a cruise due to hurricanes, but they always will alter an itinerary. If you can't make it to the dock because the airports are closed, you won't get any money back. But, if they do have to cancel the cruise, you would get a full refund. Sunrunner3 Posted July 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2005 Here's the other side of things....if you got sick with no insurance and couldn't go you wouldn't get a refund either!!!
Happy ks Posted July 9, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2005 It may not be too late to purchase your trip insurance, check out www.insuremytrip.com I do not know what type of insurance the would allow you to purchase at this late date, but it might be worth a look. If you purchased your airfare with a credit card, check to see if they have flight insurance provided already. Some credit cards have trip ins., baggage ins., trip delay ins. and medical ins. included with the purchase of travel.
kitty9 Posted July 9, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2005 Once the hurricane is in a known location, you cannot purchase any insurance for trip cancelation. That was one of the main things that was written about in a recent article in Conde Nast Traveler concerning travel insurance. Once there's a named hurricane, and it's less than 21 days to your cruise, they will not issue policies covering weather related cancelations.
