Ploy to keepOBC:

My question is: There are 2 types of OBC, refundable and non-refundable. With the non-refundable. I have been told it can not be refunded. Can it work with this below ploy? HELP!!

You go to the casino and create you players club account for the sailing (this is necessary no matter what you do because they are cashless on the ship)Go to a slot machine. Put your card in the machine (S&S) card. You will be prompted to set up an account. You will have to put your date of birth in as a PIN. You are then prompted to change your PIN (4 numbers). Now you are set to go (you can still put money in, but they have made most of the money things for dollars/coins, not work well, making it easier to bypass using money (they don't want you using money, and the ONLY way to cash out is into you players club connected to your card)

There are 4 options at this point "CASH OUT TO YOUR PLAYERS BANK"-- "GET CREDITS FROM YOU PLAYERS BANK"--"CHARGE CREDITS TO YOUR S&S CARD"--"CHANGE YOUR PIN". At this point you will have no credits unless you put money in the slot machine and you have credits in the machine, and you cash them out. If you are just using the machine to get money out of your S&S card, select the option to charge credits to you S&S card. **Note I do not know if there are different limits if you have a cash or debit card on file for your S&S card - we always have a credit card** That might factor in you max withdrawal each day. Often it is about $300-$500, but I have seen as high as $1000/day.

We decide things like if we are going to the steakhouse, cucina, and how much our bill is bound to be. We then use the left over amount to charge to our players bank (if you have more than the daily limit, you would have to load the rest the next day) We like to make sure that at least all of our credit is accounted for plus a little extra. It is approved and suddenly that money appears in the slot machine. We then "cash out" to our players bank. There is now a charge on our S&S account, which you can check on your TV for "entertainment". You must cash this out at the cashier the last might of the cruise but you can really cash it out whenever you want or every night if you want. So your S&S card is your charge card for the ship and it also "holds" your players bank money. We cash it out, put it in the safe, and bring it home and put it in the bank to put on the next cruise.

Basically - you can 'download' the obc to your S&S card in the casino - play the slot or any machine ONCE ( or more if you wish?) - then pull out your card when you are done and CASH OUT at the cage - thereby transferring the OBC from your account to your player's bank - onto your card and into cash!

I wouldn't exactly call it a ploy........that implies you're doing something that's not quite on the up and up......OBC's even the non-refundable type are there to encourage spending on the ship, they don't care where the spending takes place, casino, funshop, steakhouse.....

I always download my OBCs to my players bank and use it to play the higher value slot machines........kind of like I'm playing with their money....

If a person isn't doing that then they are just uninformed.

I had just over $100 extra that was "non refundable" on my last cruise, and that's exactly what I did. Sure beats just turning it over to Carnival, or buying a bunch of T-shirts that you don't really want. ;)

I'll be dittoing you!

Since Carnival reads these boards, thanks for letting Carnival know yet again how this is done. I am sure this will be stopped in due time on Carnival as it has been on other cruise lines.

This method of obtaining non refundable OBC has been mentioned over and over again for several years on these boards. Carnival would have no logical reason to stop it. OBC can be pulled as cash from your onboard account via the kiosks. Pulling it off your casino account is no different. If they stopped letting people cash in their casino accounts, it would put the casino out of business as people would have no reason to play if they can't get their winnings.

give it time and Carnival will find a way to limit how we use our OBC.

At least we are able to get on board credit. Since the non-refundable on board credit is use first we have never had a problem. Always got a check. The cash would just get spent.

That is what I was wondering. We have some refundable and some non-refundable OBC. We were planning on doing a cash account for our S&S card and thought we would not put any cash on it until the OBC is almost gone. That way we insure that the OBC will be used before any of our money is used. Is this a for sure that they use the non-refundable first? Can you confirm that? Thanks.

We were just on the Magic and were concerned about our obc because we were unable to get a reservation at the steak house at the time we wanted. Guest services definitely told us they use the NON REFUNDABLE obc before the refundable.

We ended up spending the non refundable and received a check in the mail for the remainder.

You can call Carnival and ask.

When we have money left over we have always received a full refund of the balance. We received a check after our last six cruises.

Agreed,

Some posts are just astonishly......out there (and I'm being kind).

You're absolutly correct.

Why people would post on a public forum how they are able to side step or scam a corporate procedure is beyond me.

People have been smuggeling alcohol on board for years and years. Then people started tell cruiseline management how they do it via boards like this. Next thing you know, cruiselines start tightening their inspection procedures. Alcohol is still being smuggled, but it's getting harder and will get even more difficult in the future.

Cruiselines used to offer TA's discount codes for excursions to be used for their customers. Then, people would post those discount codes on sites like this for everybody and their brother to use. Cruiselines caught on, now you rarely hear of discount codes.

No side stepping or scamming going on. It's simply cashing out your casino account with money that belongs to me not Carnival.

If it's "NON REFUNDABLE" ?

Then it's yours to use, It's not yours to keep if not needed. I may not necessarily agree with it, but those are the terms and conditions I agreed to.

With your philosophy, the buffet means you could load down and take all you want. Instead, it's all you can eat. Not, all you can eat PLUS stuff in your pockets.

But that's OK. If you're comfortable with your actions, then by all means,,, more power to you.

No, if I buy "cruise cash" which is non refundable, that is my money to use as I see fit. If I load up my casino account but decide not to use it all and cash it out, there's nothing that is wrong with that. Wow, there are some seriously uptight people here. If you wanna leave your hard earned money to Carnival at the end of the cruise, so be it. I work way too hard for my money.

Let me see if I understand.

1. You're buying "Cruise Cash" ( your example)

2. You know Beyond Any Doubt that this option is agreed to by all parties that this is "Non Refundable"

3. You buy so much Cruise Cash that you know you will never use it all.

Yet the big bad corporation is being unethical and immoral.

I never said they were unethical or immoral. I am simply saying that there is a way, within the "system" to cash out those funds. Non-refundable OBC can be used in the casino. Once it is transferred from your S&S account to your casino account, it becomes refundable. Perfectly "legal". There is no breaking rules or screwing Carnival.
