Daughter is now a cruise snob!

Well my daughter has now decided she is a cruise snob. After returning from a 7-nighter on Pacific Dawn after cruising Princess, she does not want to travel P & O again.

Her major gripes were:

No drink package - said it cost her a great deal more (especially at $9.50 a thickshake)

No free ice-cream (didn't like $5 a scoop)

No pizza place (only room service that she had to pay for)

Also no free room service

Lack of snack opportunities especially late at night

Staff not as friendly anymore

No free internet (she is platinum on Princess)

Too many staff clogging up the passenger bars at night

But she did have a good time overall.

She is trying her first RCI cruise on Rhapsody next year, I will be interested to hear how she likes that.:p

I agree. It makes a huge difference what extras you get on a cruise. I like a pot of tea at night. I love their pizza - a nice change of food and restaurant. Free internet keeps me in touch with my family. Free ice cream is great as long as you like to use the stairs (work it off) You do mostly get what you pay for. Having said that I go on board to have a good time and I try not to complain unless its really bad, as nothing is perfect :)

Regardless of the cruiseline or the cruiseship - there are two ways to cruise -- the expensive way and the cheap(er) way.

The expensive way -- book a precise cruise at a precise time time of year on a precise itinerary on a precise cruiseship, choose a precise cabin -- and book way,way ahead :)

The cheap way -- book any cruise at anytime of the year doing any itinerary on any cruiseship, take any cabin that is available and don't book it until 2 months before departure.

We always cruise the second way -- however I have to say that we don't just take any itinerary -- it has to lie somewhere on our "must do" list -- but that is still so long, it is no problem. Now, after taking PNG off our "must do " list, I find that I have to put it on again because we have discovered that there are many more places in PNG that we now want to see.

Barry can you please tell us more about why PNG is back on your must do list? Have never considered it as a destination.

Goroka Show and Mt Hagan Show have always been on my "must do " list. They are a unique World spectacle. I have also always had them in my "too hard" basket -- but after this cruise visit , I am thinking "maybe not?" . Could/would only go as part of an escorted tour though - and they are very expensive for an 11 or so day tour.

  • 5 months later...

Well, we have booked our "first P&O cruise on Pacific Jewel" sailing from Singapore, in June 2015, and it will be interesting to see what P&O is "really like?" - as this will be our "very first P&O" cruise ever".

We have only cruised the following -

1. Pride of America cruise around the Hawaiian Islands

2. Sun Princess cruise around the Sth Pacific Islands

3. Lastly, the Celebrity Millenium from Hawaii back to Sydney (via Papeete, Tahiti, Bora Bora & Moorea) then Suva & Noumea.

I just loved the last cruise on Celebrity, that was one "beautiful ship" and exotic ports of call.....could do it all over again.

I've just returned from my first P&O cruise on the Pacific Pearl - some on board were saying that the Jewel is nicer but I was happy enough with the Pearl.

I am glad you enjoyed your recent trip Gae, the itinerary sounded very good, although your weather was a bit varied. There are so many positives for all the lines, and often it is just personal preferences for the small stuff. Another variable is the people you meet, and every cruise we have done we have met some great people, and you can't find that out in a brochure! :)
