Taxi companies in Miami

If you are staying at a major hotel I would not try to schedule a taxi. You'll find many lined up.

Are you looking for a special sized taxi other than a sedan?

No, just a regular one. We're staying at the Sheraton across from MIA but it looks to be a bit out of the way on a golf course so I'm not sure if there would be taxis lined up. I just assumed it would be easier to call ahead to ensure there would be one picking us up when we want to leave. There are so many taxi companies in Miami though that I want to make sure we get a reputable one.

I've used several companies over the years in Miami and they are all about the same. Unlike some cities, I've never been taken in terms of someone driving an indirect way to earn a larger fare.

Let me suggest that you call the Hotel and ask them if taxis are lined up. If they are I would just go that route. The only reason I tell you this is once we needed a larger taxi as we were going with three other people out to dinner and I found that when you make arrangements ahead of time it actually took longer.

If the cabs are not lined up then I would just make arrangements when you get to the hotel.

I agree. Don't bother calling ahead preflight for a cab. Things can change. Delays etc. Anyways, I would guess a cab company would tell you to flag them down there when you are ready. It's a VERY short non-money making trip for them. If you want to book a private car service, it can be done. But cabs are plentiful near the airport and if you don't see one outside in the morning, the hotel staff will call one to transfer you to the port. I think you are over planning in this case.;)

Thanks everyone! The hotel has a free shuttle from MIA but not to POM so that's what I was worried about. I ALWAYS over plan and like to have everything done in advance so relying on someone else (even a hotel who does this daily) is a bit nerve-wracking. I guess I'm a control freak haha
