CPT Trips Posted October 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2013 I remember (accurately or not) reading about a broken Danube lock. We are heading up River, Budapest to Linz. Are any locks not working in that stretch? Any other problems in that stretch? Thanks to all!
Rare RachelG Posted October 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Currently all appear to be working fine. Doesn't mean they couldn't malfunction anytime, but for now, good to go.

ingo_e Posted October 27, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 27, 2013 Last week Gabcikovo lock (between Bratislava and Budapest) was undergoing maintenance. Altenwörth was closed for several weeks due to the flood and had suffered major damage. In general most locks (e.g. on the Main Danube Canal) are closed in early April when the rivers are 100% ice free to repair them for the next season. Luckily this is also the time when every ship and bathtub are used for the tulip cruises, so this is no problem (unless the repair takes longer than expected). At this moment everything flows as it should.
acruisefan Posted October 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2013 That may have been my post about the Gabcikovo lock between Budapest and Bratslavia. It did affect our cruise because it was closed from Oct 14-18. This was only announced to the cruise lines less than a week before the closing. We cruised with AMA and they immediately notified us of the change before we left. We took a 3 hr bus ride from Budapest to Bratslavia in the afternoon that we were scheduled to depart, instead of a sail. A little disappointing, but what can be done? Nothing else on our itinerary changed and it was a great cruise, no nights on board were missed. When river cruising, things can happen - lock strike, a ship ramming into a lock and damaging it, water too high, water too low ... you have to roll with the possibilities.
