Questions for 1st time Alaskan Cruise

Maybe the way to go is to do a 7 night Northbound Cruise starting in Vancouver ending in Anchorage. Then rent a car and drive somewhere close to Denali and stay 2 nights. Do a longer tour of Denali, then drive back to Anchorage and fly back from there.

 

Any thoughts?

I would suggest adding at least another day, and not rushing off to Denali, direct from Whittier. There is plenty to see and do along the way. It's nice to add a stay in Anchorage, loaded with sightseeing. Also Mat Su, and Talkeetna could be worthwhile. Otherwise, you are looking at at least allowing 7++ hours on the road, plus tunnel time. You are best to also allow at least another hour, by Wasilla, for a grocery, gas top off stop.

 

There are many lodging choices, from big lodges, small independent motels, B&B's, cabins etc. wide price ranges. What is your preference? For basic budget lodging, I stay at the Denali Park Hotel, my preferred B&B is Touch of Wilderness.
