OlsSalt Posted November 4, 2013 #26 Share Posted November 4, 2013 ….we have decided to give HAL a rest for now and try Oceania and possibly Regent. We'll see how that works out. That is not intended to discourage anyone from trying HAL, but you must set your expectations to match what you actually buy. You get what you pay for. Hope that helps. After first cruising Crystal, we did not really want what we were paying for on Crystal and found HAL a far better niche for us. Leave us alone is our own cruise comfort zone. So in our case, we like paying less for less. And liking what we get a lot on HAL ships. We found our Goldilocks cruise line - just right.
CRUZBUDS Posted November 5, 2013 #27 Share Posted November 5, 2013 Not sure what you mean by HAL having "most liberal smoking policy" because they are limiting if much more every year. But if it is zero on other ships, then I guess its limited area smoking policy is still liberal. Love to see it become zero myself but we rarely have run into this as a problem and don't go to the casino which is probably why. Not trying to start a smoking thread, but I believe HAL is one of the few mass-market lines that still allows smoking on balconies. (Carnival and NCL are also in this group) --- if I'm wrong, please let me know. Along with cabins and balconies, Celebrity allows no inside smoking at all, including the casino :)
