We stayed diagonally across from it in the Thistle Hotel this past year. We were on the 7th floor and could hear (faintly) people down in the square. If you read the reviews on the site above, you might want to check for recommendations of room locations.

It's a very loud active place great for the 20 somethings and not the best position on the square. The rooms are tiny.

For large rooms, great service and the best position on the square try the Radisson Blu Hampshire where we have spent over 150 nights. If you can swing it get a suite, fabulous! ;)
