mamaza Posted November 16, 2013 #26 Share Posted November 16, 2013 Thanks, Donna. I am not sure about the kettles--we hadn't been in a JS for quite some time, but never had one in a regular balcony room. There was also a one-cup coffee maker, which we used once the first night before our luggage arrived. Our St Kitt's tour was through the ship. "The Essential St Kitts", and the driver was Trevor, former soccer star for the island. We really liked this port. Teddie :)Good to see/hear from you again Teddie. We're doing Explorer in Jan for our Anniversary, as you can see. Question had to do with the coffee maker. Was it the Pod type pot where you put the little pod filled with coffee inside? They had them when we sailed with you Dec 2011. We brought our own pods as were heard correctly that RCI supplied the wrong size pods (too large). Everyone was right and I'm glad we brought our own coffee pods. Marc
teddie Posted November 16, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) Nice review! We are sailing on The Explorer in March, a bit nervous, we are Celebrity and Princess cruisers. My question is about MTD and a table for 2. Are the tables really close together so you may as well be seated with others? We definitely don't want that. Thanks!Marguerite Thanks, Marguerite, We had a table for two each night. They are close enough for chatting and apart enough for privacy, for us, at least. This is our third time using MTD, and we make online reservations in advance for 7:30 each night. If after the first dinner we like the table location and servers, we ask the MTD host to give us the same table each night. Have a great cruise! kleo30 Posted November 16, 2013 #28 Share Posted November 16, 2013 We were on this same cruise. I agree with you about the crew....they were fantastic. The weather was gorgeous, except that last sea day. I was rather sick that day. But otherwise, a fantastic cruise.

We cruised early this year, to get the extra day, and some new ports. Yes, there was a filter pod filled with coffee; my husband used it, so I didn't really get a good look at it. He says that the pod was "a little big", but it made a decent cup of coffee. Knowing him, he probably just jammed the pod into the holder to make it fit :) Have a great cruise! teddie Posted November 16, 2013 Author #30 Share Posted November 16, 2013 We were on this same cruise. I agree with you about the crew....they were fantastic. The weather was gorgeous, except that last sea day. I was rather sick that day. But otherwise, a fantastic cruise. I used my scop patch, as usual, so no ill effects from the sea. The crew was especially helpful on that last rough sea day--helping to carry my plate of food to my table in the WJ, permitting me to "hold on" to keep steady. I saw this going on throughout the meal. I felt that there was much more of a visible presence of the officers this entire cruise, more than previous Explorer cruises we have taken. I liked that the crew remained cheerful and friendly from the first day to the last. I looked back at my initial post, thinking how I must sound like an RCI cheerleader, but truth be told, there really wasn't much of anything negative to report! The beach at Coconut was lovely; the ocean was warm, clean, and with some waves that day. oceanbabe Posted November 16, 2013 #33 Share Posted November 16, 2013 Hi All: A little late, but here goes. Went on the Explorer 7 day to Bermuda on Oct 20 for a girlfriend's getaway. Have been on this wonderful ship 3x before. We had deck 7, mid, near the library. Room was in very good condition. The balcony really needed work. The paint was peeling and the metal was rusted. Room for 2 chairs & small table. We ate in Portofino and thought it was as good as ever. Otherwise, we ate at a table for 8 in MDR nightly. Food was good and service outstanding. Cabin steward great. I had hurt my ankle and all were very helpful. Very few children on cruise. Bermuda great as usual, but had rain the last day so could not go back to Horseshoe Bay, which i love. Don't forget to go to the craft market at dockyard as we got very unusual items at good prices. Sorry to hear Explorer is leaving, but will see what Quantum is like next year. lovetocruiserccl Posted November 16, 2013 #34 Share Posted November 16, 2013 Loved your review. Short and sweet. I think I may change our dining options we usually do 8:30 on all out cruises in the main dining room. I love the Explorer usually get JR suite on Deck 10. We've been trying to get a cabana on our last few cruises and have been disappointed every time. Its hard to get one on Coco Cay. We leaving on the 22nd of December holiday cruise. I'm excited as usual. Just hoping we get a cabana. Thank again for your review Love To Cruise RCCL

Hello, The Compasses for Day 2 and Day 3 (both sea days), have the golf simulator available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. "Reservations are required at $25/hr." cruzinlady1947 Posted November 16, 2013 #40 Share Posted November 16, 2013 Hi Teddie. Thanks for this review. I've been on the Explorer at least 10 times, lost count, and will be on her again in Dec. How are they doing the Ice Show tickets? Are they still going by your muster stations as to when to see the show? They did this in March. Just wondering if they are still doing it that way. Or are they back to handing out tickets? Thanks. Gwen :)

Guest maddycat Posted November 16, 2013 #43 Share Posted November 16, 2013 We were on the same cruise, our 8th on the Explorer. The ship is in great shape. The crew is excellent. We had a good time. There were only three things that were negatives. 1. The casino is no longer non-smoking on formal nights. 2. The tea onboard (First Tea) is absolutely awful. It's weak and has a strange taste. I'll be bringing my own tea on our next RCI cruise. 3. The ship was kept very cold. Many of the crew wore heavy sweat shirts when working in the Promenade shops. Many passengers were wearing sweaters and jackets inside the ship. Complaining to guest services didn't help.

The packaging looked kinda cool, but you needed two teabags for one cup! We do like it on the cold side, so that wasn't an issue for us. I hope to sail the Explorer one more time before she goes into drydock.... Teddie
crisndeefromde Posted November 17, 2013 #45 Share Posted November 17, 2013 You are most welcome! Just know that Coconut Beach Club was not splashy or luxurious; simply peaceful, clean, and friendly for a nice all-inclusive beach getaway. Just want to make sure; if you are looking for something more upscale, this might not be the place. Their website has lots of photos. Have a great cruise! Teddie thank you so so much...I emailed the resort and this morning they emailed me. I sent back the date we are scheduled in the port and she confirmed us...whooo hoooo thank you again.
