The Statue of Liberty will be on the starboard side (the right side as you face the bow) when you leave Manhattan. Best place (imho) for sail away is a top open deck where you can move back and forth between each side, as the port side will give you an amazing view of Manhattan as you sail past the island. It is one of the most spectacular sail aways anywhere. Stay up on top when the ship goes under the Verrazano Bridge; your son will think the ship won't make it! :)

Not sure the time of year you are sailing, but I would dress to be outside for sail away, not indoors.

If you're sailing in warm weather, then up top out in the open. If it's cold then the Spinnaker Lounge.

We usually stake out our spot in Spinnakers after the muster drill. I think it takes 30 - 45 minutes to reach the Statue...

Where is the best place to see the Statue of Liberty during sail away. I have a 6 year old dieing to see it

Also, some of the best views of the statue are after you actually pass it - everyone is all excited when they first see it, but be patient and you'll be rewarded. Great Outdoors or deck above are excellent spots as well.

So glad to hear starboard side! We have sailed out of NYC twice but always in an inside cabin and went once to open deck and once to Spinnaker to see, but we have a balcony this time ..my DH wanted starboard side because he thought could see statue. So excited to have a new experience of balcony and also to be on it for sailaway! Only problem is there are 4 of us and seems balconies on breakaway are very small....

I hope you have a wonderful trip! I will just reiterate what I said above: if you spend the entire sail away on your starboard balcony, you will miss the best part of one of the most beautiful sail aways on the planet, the port side view:

And if you're on one of the open decks, you'll be able to hear when they play Lee *********'s "I'm Proud to be An American" as you pass the Statue of Liberty. :)

It always brings tears to my eyes....

Hi. I'm on your roll call. We'll be meeting for a informal sailaway get together right after the safety drill. We'll be wearing Mardi Gras beads to identify ourselves and I'll bring extra. Our meeting place will be perfect for viewing the sailaway along the Manhattan Skyline, Ellis Island, and Lady Liberty. Our meeting place will depend on the weather:

... If the ship's sailaway party is outdoors, we'll meet at the Bali Hai Bar & Grill on Deck 13 midship overlooking the pool with access to both sides of the ship for pictures. As we get towards the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, you can easily get to the forward sundeck to watch us sail under.

... If the ship's sailaway party is indoors, we'll meet in the Spinnaker Lounge, Deck 13 forward.

Looking forward to meeting you!
