Toddcan Posted November 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2013 I've always been a solid guy. Weighed about 195lbs when I played football when I was 18. However, I just turned 50 this year, and am considerably more than 195 now :) I've tried WW, Richard Simmons (yes, he had a food counter plan- was actually pretty good), etc etc. I would lose up to 15 lbs, and then stall out. Then I found Dr. Bernstein (the canadian one, not the other one). It's similar to Atkins diet - very low carbs, and high protein. Except, Atkins also promote high(er) fat content. This one is low fat. Joined up Oct 1. As of this morning, I have lost 37 lbs. And the really odd part - I'm not hungry at all! As long as I dont eat carbs, my blood sugars will remain level, and not spike the hunger. Sounded good in theory, and has worked out to be true for me. Only downside is that it is expensive! But, I'm pumped for my cruise. I'm going to take a 3 week break at Christmas, and rejoin in Jan. Caribbean, here we come !

Toddcan Posted November 28, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted November 28, 2013 A further 4.6 lbs down this week. Total loss: 41.6 lbs. Going to take off Christmas, and restart in January. I turned 50 this year, so this has been my motivation to get in better shape. No doctor issues, just too much of "me" :D Hoping to settle at about a 50lb loss total. Just in time for my March cruise. JimAOk1945 Posted November 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2013 Is your success based only on the food you eat/don't eat? Do you also exercise?

Toddcan Posted January 13, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted January 13, 2014 After taking 4 weeks off at Christmas (didn't go crazy), I am back into the weight loss routine, and as of this morning, I've lost a total of 47 lbs. Our plan runs out in 4 weeks, so I am hoping to be down about 60 all together. Might have to buy a new bathingsuit :p
Toddcan Posted January 27, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Count so far: 53 lbs lost. Yes, I exercise, cardio only. I do 45 mins on a treadmill (fast walk at an incline) three times per week. 7 lbs to go until my goal. Cruise leaves in 6 weeks from today. It doesn't matter if you lift, work on machines, practice yoga or pilates, or do calisthenics, cardio alone will shred calories but it won't build muscle, and without that you won't have the body you are working to achieve. Agree. But, Phase one (which ends in 2 weeks) includes cardio only. Then it goes to resistence/cardio training. I'm on it :)

That is alot of weight to drop, you should be very proud!!! So are you planning to continue when you get back from your cruise? We are all trying to lose for a cruise, but what about keeping it off? I am preparing for a cruise in Aug, but I plan to continue my new healthy lifestyle after we return.
ediesbeads Posted February 22, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 22, 2014 Congrats! Do you have to continue to purchase the "diet plan" to continue the diet? I did Atkins with some success, but I found it stressful to be in ketosis. I couldn't eat at a friend's house without worrying about kicking myself out of ketosis, or being a very picky guest, and basically starting over again. It was very hard, and I really missed fruit. So in preparation for our first cruise in December DH and I are doing a "low carb" but not so low. I try to keep my daily carbs around 100g which make me feel better, trims the lb's, and will hopefully let me buy a new swimming suit before we cruise! Good luck and keep up the good work!
