Will be in the Ft Lauderdale area on Dec 5 for a hockey game and leave for Tampa on Dec 6. We fly in on Dec 4th so we have the day free on thursday Dec 6 and want to hit a beach for a few hours. What is a good beach that is easy to get to from the Plantation area for a few hours and maybe a few other suggestions for things to do in the Plantation /Davie area. We arent coming to shop so shopping malls our not on our list.We have a rental car with GPS. Thanks in advance for your help

IMO the best beaches have public restrooms. You will find this in Fort Lauderdale between Sheraton and Bahia Mar. There is a metered parking lot there. Another good one is across the street from Beach Place. There is a parking garage (a bit expensive but convenient), public restrooms, and several places to have lunch.

I agree with the suggestions mentioned for the Fort Lauderdale Beaches. As far as things to do in Plantation/Davie ... not much, however Flamingo Gardens in Davie is interesting, if you like botanical gardens:

We're staying in Dania Beach....where would be a good place to access the beach?? I just wanna be able to park and get a a few pictures

Option 1: Hollywood Beach has a 2.5 mile-long broadwalk with lots of inexpensive eateries, beach shops, and public restrooms. There is metered parking, and you can rent bikes or walk the length of the broadwalk.

Option 2: There is a public beach with metered parking at the end of Dania Beach Blvd and A1A. There is a pier and a Quarterdeck restaurant at the pier.

Option 3: John U Lloyd State Park at the very north end of A1A, north of Dania Beach Blvd. You will have to pay park admission, but may be worth it if you're staying a couple of hours.
