martinchem Posted December 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 3, 2013 I love porthole cabins and don't understand why Carnival won't let them be available for Early Saver rates anymore.

Colorado Kat Posted December 4, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2013 Portholes are windows for an interior price. Easy to sell, so no need to offer them at a discount.

I'm actually surprised that Carnival hasn't been doing more of this with the PTs. Just like the new scenic OV rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows: they are sometimes not available with any discounted rate, making them more expensive than a balcony (since the balcony can be booked at a discounted rate). Even if people won't book these nice rooms at the higher Fun Select rate now, Carnival knows that they will be able to easily sell them later, such as after Early Saver goes away or after final payment. Those ships have a ton of porthole rooms, so they probably would be offering those with the discounted rates, as they do often have a hard time filling those. But on the bigger ships, with only 6 or so "Porthole" rooms on the entire ship, they fill very fast. You have to book it well in advance on those.
