We are cruising on the Carnival Splendor and will have a whole day at Port Canaveral. We want to go to the Space Center, there are three of us and it's 101.99 each, so 306.00 for all of us for the ship excursion.. Would I be better off just getting a taxi to drop us off there? Does anyone know what the transport would cost and how easy it is to get a cab back to the ship when we are ready. Thanks, Cheryl

Personally I'd rent a car.

I'm not familiar with your itinerary, but if Port Canaveral is a day stop during your cruise, then your cruise line may have an excursion available to the Space Center that includes transportation.

I would also suggest renting a car. It cost us about $30 for the day through Budget (Google for discount codes). They have a shuttle to/from the port.

It was very easy and MUCH cheaper than the ship excursion!

We really enjoyed our day at the Space Centre.

I am interested in visiting the Space Center as well but am not comfortable with renting a car away from home. Is it far from the port? Any idea what a taxi would cost?

Per Google Maps (and personal experience), it's 18 miles, about a 20-30 minute drive from Pt Canaveral to the KSC Visitor's Center, a very easy drive, all semi-rural roads, no traffic to speak of. The Visitor's Center is not particularly close to anything, it's located within KSC proper, but not in the secured area.

I would too. It's got to be cheaper than $101.99 X 3, even including admission tickets. BTW, you can save $5/person but using the free, downloadable Orlando Magicard. http://www.visitorlando.com/discounts-and-tickets/free-magicard-orlando-discount-card/?s_kwcid=TC&gclid=CMTP0u3MnLsCFYQ7OgodnCYAeQ

We were on the Splendor Thanksgiving Day and just got off the ship and into a taxi. I think it was $20 each. Kennedy Space Center was, hands down, the best stop on our trip. Don't miss the Atlantis building. And the launch pad tour is well worth the time also. Skip the ships excursion....too much money. Have fun!
