Norwegian or Celebrity to Bermuda from NY?

Hi, we're considering cruising to Bermuda this summer with a large group - 70 year old dad, couple in 40s, 20 year old, couple in 30s, 2 and 6 year old. We're all veteran cruises and love Royal Carib. That being said, which line would you recommend - Norwegian Breakway or Celebrite Summit for a 7 night trip to Bermuda? Which line has better kids programs/entertainment, service, and food? (FYI - we have sailed on Norwegian and were not impressed; never been on Celebrity).

Thanks,

Lana

I've sailed on both cruise lines and enjoyed the cruises on each. You are considering not only very different lines but also very different ships. The Summit is a more traditionally built, older, and smaller ship than the Breakaway. Speaking only for myself, the Breakaway is too large for me; I have no desire to be on a ship with that many pax. We sailed the NCL Gem out of NY to Bermuda two years ago and enjoyed the trip; I'm really sorry that NCL replaced the Gem with the Breakaway on that itinerary.

Food wise, overall I think the food on Celebrity is better, but that's of course very subjective, and we've had great food, and mediocre food, on both lines.

Enjoy whatever you decide!

Go with Celebrity and the heck with the kids.:D They do have a camp and pool for the young ones.

They do not have camp for the two year old and there is no kid's pool on the Summit. There is one pool for all ages (unless the two year old is not yet potty trained). There are two adult pools, one inside and one outside, so the people in the all ages pool are generally not the type that get angry when kids are nearby.

That said, we've taken our two children, now 7 and 10, on the Summit twice and will be taking them for the third time this summer. At this age, they still love it. I would not recommend the Summit for older kids unless they're very capable of entertaining themselves. My kids are happy as long as there's a scavenger hunt to do during the day and a show to see in the evening.

I have never been on NCL, so can't compare, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Celebrity.

As you can see by my signature that I love different lines and ships...I loved my Dawn cruises out of New York...but also love my Summit cruises...we are back on the Summit this year for different reasons..like the T pool and the food and the more casual adult feel of the ship....last year we went on the Breakaway and I loved it, although it was too big and too many people. But, I loved all the restaurants and entertainment...I think NCL has better entertainment...but I wasn't able to do any trivia games or other venues I wanted to go to because there were too many people on the Breakaway...lots more to do on the Breakaway for families though.. so it's a hard call as you can tell..I probably didn't help at all...sorry:D

I did not love the Breakaway. All over the ship.....too many people. Very dense. Also the smokey casino in the center of the public areas leaks out smoke. I do agree there is more for children on Breakaway. The Summit is a quality experience. Better food and service too. NCL is more a mass experience. I don't have problems with big ships. Been on Allure and Oasis and the public areas did not feel crowded like on Breakaway.
